Ok - so to start with I know news organisations are deliberately sensationalist so create headlines with horror in them to draw you in. So I don't realistically expect them to change.
However, I keep coming across incredibly distressing headlines (e.g. BBC News yesterday had a headline about 3 kids found dead in Bristol, I didn't want to read it so didn't, today there's a headline that one of the three was a baby so despite not wanting to know about it I now have to know that).
I want to keep up with the key news that I need to know (what's happening in the world, big weather events, law changes etc) and not have to deal with horrible headlines about other things. Fine for them to write the articles as I recognise there's public interest but don't put particularly distressing details in the headline, save it for the article if people choose to read it. Another example is the little boy that starved to death. It's fine to say if you don't like it don't read it but I don't have a choice if the horror is in the headline!
