AIBU to say that as a country we have absolutely appalling statistics on protecting women and girls from sexual offenders and this should be addressed as a priority? It feels like every week, another shocking story is splashed across the news, whether it be for women in the army, the police, the ambulance service, domestic violence figures, sexual assault/rape conviction rates-the stories are all out there and NOTHING happens.

It makes me absolutely furious that this has become some kind of societal norm and shrugged off.

Better conviction rates and harsher sentencing for offenders would be a good start.

A better sex education programme in schools that doesn't focus just on mechanics and the briefest discussion of consent; but actually addresses unwanted sexual attentions and responsible behaviours.

Better role modelling and speaking out about the issue from politicians, community leaders and actually taking action not just against perpetrators but people who have been complicit.

Probably better victim support services too

I think you are being a bit unreasonable here. Sadiq Khan has spend millions rebranding the overground trains, surely that’s more important than some silly women’s safety? 🙄

What is wrong with some men ? Why can't they control their sexual urges ? Or do they see it as entitlement?

They're not rebranding the Overground for the fun of it, they're rebranding because the spaghetti of orange lines was genuinely confusing. A core part of the job of getting people from a-b is making it obvious to them how to get there, it's not just optional fluff.

TBH as a TfL commuter I see huge amounts of messaging every day on sexual harassment, what constitutes harassment, and useful practical tips for well-meaning onlookers to help. So they're not ignoring the problem although they don't have a magic wand to repel vile men from the network. I'd be interested to hear whether other transport systems around the world have any more practical actions that could be adopted.
