Water rates

Aibu to think that been priced on rateable value is so unfair.
I can't have a water meter and feel I'm been penalised as I'm paying more in my band A 1 bed flat than families in 3 bed houses and they've just put it up.
Anybody in same situation is there no way around this.

I agree. It's similar method to council tax.

From Moneysavingexpert ...
"
If the water company actually can't fit a meter and your water usage is limited, ask for an 'assessed charge bill'. This is worked out on details such as how many people live in your home, but varies from company to company."

DancingintheSpoonlight · 18/02/2024 19:48

You’re not being penalised. For some an RV charge is fantastic, but for others like yourself it obviously isn’t.
Apply for a meter to pay for what you actually use and if there’s any issues, your water company can still do something.

Please don’t call up your water company to rant it’s unfair- the advisor will explain what I’ve just said.

So they should offer you the Assessed Measured Charge someone above advised which will be along the lines of average usage for what you’re likely to use on a meter

BobbyBiscuits · 19/02/2024 08:38

We are not able to have a meter, the engineer confirmed this. I spoke to the CEOs office and a lovely guy helped me and we reduced our bill by £50 a month. What company is it?

Houseplanter · 19/02/2024 08:52

Ours was also reduced when they decided we couldn't have a meter

Shame council tax isn't too

I agree, I had a meter installed at a previous flat and my bills went down to a third of what I'd been paying on rateable value. The flat I'm currently in is in a ridiculous council tax band compared (F for a 2 bed!) and you can only get a domestic water meter in Scotland if you pay to have it installed.

Wannabegreenfingers · 19/02/2024 09:37

It was the other way round for me. I paid far more on a meter than I do rates. The size of my house and the number of occupants hasn't changed.

Is that because you had a low rateable value so your usage exceeds that, or has your usage increased? Even unintentionally?
