To think there are better places to live

Every time I go overseas I always come back thinking there are much better places to live; where the sun shines more and there is a bit more of an outdoor lifestyle; somewhere close to mountains, lakes, sea, more sense of community.

We live in London and I am grateful for all I have but I don’t think I will ever get used to the English weather, winters are so long and depressing. I don’t miss it when I go away. Doesn’t help that our families live in other continents.

Our jobs are here and children growing up in the UK so we are not going anywhere until we retire so no point of complaining so I’ve better go and put my SAD lamp; but the feeling never completely goes away.

I'm happy living in the UK. Whatever type of scenery I fancy, sea, mountains, forests, urban is never more than a couple of hours away. Whatever type of weather, I know it will come round at some point, but usually in a gentle way that's not dangerous or too inconvenient. I don't have to fear natural disasters or the impact of seriously unstable government. I get the people here. The humour, the social norms and the familiarity is a comfort, and the diversity keeps it fresh. Everyone I know and love lives here. And the light is soft.

I sometimes dream how I wasn’t born in California or somewhere beachy and sunny. Instead of cold Scotland bbbrrrrr
