Sick of shitty designed baby products

Sitting here feeding my son in his high chair, watching more food get caked into the straps. The straps are woven fabric so even though I give the whole lot a wipe down after each meal, the straps just soak up bloody everything! Surely they could come up with a better type of strap for a high chair, it’s not like he’s going parachuting with it, they don’t need to be that strong.

Also baby clothes with buttons. Infuriating.

I agree. So many badly designed baby products, they usually cost a fortune too.

If they're removable I throw them in the washing machine with any load as they tend to dry quickly.

Surely you just strap him first, and then put a massive bib over him? I never had to wash high chair straps

Pineapplewaves · 17/02/2024 12:40

I used to strap DS into his high chair then put a long sleeve coverall bib on him so it covered the straps as well as his clothes. Wait until your child gets a bit older, they won't want to be strapped in and will point blank refuse to let you do it - or just undo them and climb out like DS did!

You can take the high chair straps off and machine wash them. Fabric is the strongest material to make them with. If they used plastic or PVC they'd break quicker then you would complain about that.

Next time you buy a baby product or any household item actually, ask yourself " how will I clean it".

I agree years ago when I had my eldest everything was designed much better tbh! I bought DD a cheap pram from a well known company and I couldn’t believe it….the company thought that rather than putting soft rounded screws to use to clip on the raincover with holes in the appropriate place to keep it in place they thought a flimsy bit of felt wrapped around to secure the raincover so dd gets soaked just kicks it off!

lovinglaughingliving · 17/02/2024 12:42

Unhook them and put them in the washing machine? Or use a cover all bib? Or buy the £5 Ines high hair that you can jet wash and dismantle to dry out/store

Bibado bibs, life saver!

IKEA high chairs are so much better than expensive options.

ShirleyPhallus · 17/02/2024 12:47

We had the ikea high chair which was so much better than the more expensive alternatives. Particularly the padded ones with the thick straps which would seem to attract mess.

the ikea one doesn’t even need you to strap the child in. I’ve never washed the straps

Ikea High Chair is so much better than the expensive ones. Put the straps on baby and they put a giant bib on baby that covers the straps.
