Is this right for a baby in nursery?!

First time mum so have no idea if this is normal or not. I have a 14 month old. She is in a room with 1 year olds to 20 month olds. They are all walking, she is not, though she can stand on her own. Ive been told that she will go outside to the lawn/decking area with them all at lunchtime… I am not ok with this as she is crawling still?! Am I being over the top about this or is this a bit grim? Id rather she went outside when she can actually walk.

My children are 8 and 7 and still collect sticks and stones when they go for a walk! When will it end 🤣
You’ll be fighting lots of battles for a long long time if you never let your child pick anything up.

Wait til they go on school residential and don’t shower for 3 days and come home with a bag full of clean clothes.

This is primary school btw.

I've added a couple of pics of my daughter when she was a toddler/pre walker.

I realised my previous comment sounded patronising with the 'bless you' - wasn't meant to be!

But please let her explore outside! If mine don't look like a feral child at the end of the day I'm a bit sad!

People keep saying get a puddle suit… yes I will when she’s walking?! My point is she’s still crawling so literally her hands will be all over the ground?

OP my kids used to get filthy crawling around in the garden, you just wash their hands or have a wet wipe handy for when they stop. Exploring grass, textures and mud is all part of the fun!!

When I was nursery hunting when pregnant with DS (and suffering crippling prenatal depression and anxiety), I immediately nixed any nursery that didn't give the babies gross motor skills outside time. It's so important for their development!

The nursery DS went to had a beautiful garden and a sandpit, and they ALWAYS had the babies out there. When it was cold they'd bundle them up and sit them on a thick picnic blanket with some toys and let them roam around a bit.

Relax. Let her enjoy the outdoors. As long as not in a park covered in dog poo, it’s fine. My ds was always crawling around the beach, park, patio etc. he’s very rarely poorly. You need to build that immune system, as long as they’re not putting anything dangerous in their mouths.

You can put mittens on babies but most of them will immediately remove them. Especially when playing outside as they want to be able to pick things up and get everything in their mouths.

Ime the Polarn and Reima ones with the elastic stay on quite well, especially when put on under a coat/jumper. Of course they'd prefer not to wear them, but if we're out somewhere where it's not safe or comfortable essentially to crawl around barefoot (tarmac, thorns etc.), then it's wear them or stay in the buggy.

You should read 'Last child in the woods' asap!

Ok thanks for the perspective!

my worry was her eating dirt/poo/mud etc as her hands would be on the ground crawling.

Totally normal to worry about this stuff being a first time mum :) but your little one will be fine. You've not done anything wrong, it's all a learning curve.

@Nurseryimumma The day my son goes on a walk without picking up a stick I think I’ll cry as I’ll know he’s all grown up.

My lad is 13 in a few months and he still collects interesting sticks, stones, shells etc on walks 😁
