Digging a grave and burying your sadly deceased dog in a public park

Am I being unreasonable to think there are probably laws against this and burying your much loved pet in a park is not a great idea?

Did you actually see the dead dog? I would think about alerting police if not; it could have been anything they were burying, hiding in plain sight. Explain the full story, just report on 111, no need for drama - but it is very odd behaviour.

Good point

I don’t think it’s legal to bury a pet in a public place, someone once told me it’s not technically legal for the vet to give you back your dead pet after they’ve been PTS as they are then classed as hazardous waste or something.. not sure how true that is though!

That is not true. People have their pet PTS at home, and then make their own arrangements for cremation.
I had a pet PTS at the vet, and was asked if I wanted the body so I could do my own thing.

If you could see the “thanks” you’d realise how wrong you were. Dog. Sea. Yeeeet.

Yeet means to throw. No ones throws into the sea from the beach. It will cost more for me to get the a beach than it would to cremate any of my pets.

I will be sure I yeet my mum into the sea when she goes. Acceptable?

Acceptable. You can also yeet from boats you know.

TheHorseOnSeventhAvenue · 15/02/2024 22:26

Deer, foxes and badgers all die and have similar-sized corpses so I guess nature will take it’s course.

It was just a bit of an odd scene.

I thought it was hilarious. Clearly satire and not meant to be taken seriously.

Yes, you can. But there are still rules. Body has to be in a weighted coffin, and you must have a DNA sample of the deceased.

Ruralrules · 15/02/2024 22:48

A nearby park was part of a large estate at a time and a burial ground within it was consecrated and used as the family burial ground. It's really disturbing to see that someone has buried their dog there, planted a tree and left a large plaque in what effectively is a graveyard.

I didn't take it seriously. It certainly wasn't 'hilarious'.

Cazpar · 15/02/2024 23:01

It might actually be worth letting someone know. The non-emergency police maybe? Just in case someone finds it and it sparks a huge panic that there's been a murder.

That was funny though @K0OLA1D 😆

Agree. Constantly repeating 'yeet it into the sea' is unfunny and a bit daft. The bloody dog would wash up on the beach. Who wants to be catching some rays on the beach, with a bunch of bloody dead dogs next to them that the sea has just washed up FFS?!

Whatever the exact opposite is to the word 'hilarious' - THAT is what 'yeet it into the sea' is!

'Hilarious' it is not.

SweetBirdsong · 15/02/2024 23:08

Oh and @TheHorseOnSeventhAvenue Burying a dog in a public park is a bloody awful thing to do!

JMSA · 15/02/2024 23:11

It's a bit grim really. Imagine if everyone considered it acceptable to do this Confused

Oh dear. Imagine being so desperate to prove how 'right' you are, and how soooo many people think you're funny, that you say 'I have many people who have THANKED me for my post, so my comment was clearly very funny!' 😆

I am cringing for you!!! Blush

serin · 15/02/2024 23:16

Bloody hell, they could have been burying anything! A murder victim, stolen goods, drugs!
(I've been watching Kin)

herewegoagainy · 15/02/2024 23:23

Although not allowed, I do not see this as a big deal. I assume the person doing it could not afford a cremation. Times are hard at the moment for many people. The dog's body will just rot away, it will be fine.

Frangipanyoul8r · 15/02/2024 23:23

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 15/02/2024 21:24

Jesus Christ just yeet it into the sea.

😂😂😂

herewegoagainy · 15/02/2024 23:27

And communal cremation is £50 to £80, it is not a small amount. Someone with a garden would have buried it there, so this individual must not have a garden.

I agree couldn’t they at least have found a remote wood or something?

some Dog owners seem to love using parks as their own private garden. News flash - a public park isn’t your garden.

herewegoagainy · 15/02/2024 23:38

They may not have access to a car to take the dog to a remote wood. You can not just take a dead dog on the bus.

DyslexicPoster · 15/02/2024 23:44

Oh dear, that will be dug up and chewed by a fox.

btw dead dogs in the sea wash up. Unpleasant fact. I have seen a fair few bobbing around in harbours.

Cazpar · 15/02/2024 23:44

You also can't just bury one in a park.

I have every sympathy, but it's very inappropriate and probably illegal. As well as causing a potential health hazard and a police issue (in all probability it was not buried deep enough and will be disturbed by animals or kids playing).
