bloody hell!! that would do my head in! I live above a supermarket and in a sunday its open until 7pm, 8pm rest of the week. Plus Morrisons is open until 8pm on sunday and 10pm rest of week - I am spoiled arent I ??

Jojay, my husband works in the travel industry and some daft blighters want to go on holiday on Xmas day so he has to work.

Jojay · 23/03/2008 17:03

And while I'm on my soap box, childcare is a nightmare for these days. DH and I are working tomorrow - childminder is justifiably shut as are all nurseries I've heard of, so we're having to do a 50 mile round trip to drop him off at the in laws.

I know that's completely irrelevent to your point but I felt like a moan.............!

expatinscotland · 23/03/2008 17:04

We will be moving someplace less rural, seb, and someplace where you do not need to use a ferry to get to a city.

Our landlords are selling this place when they return from Africa and moving someplace warmer.

So we will need to move on.

Also, the NHS provisions out here are very, very poor in many ways and being scaled back even more, so we'll be moving for this reason as well - DD1 has SN.

Jojay · 23/03/2008 17:05

seb1 - I know many others have it worse than we do, the emergency services being the oft quoted examples.

I used to work with horses so I've done my share of Xmas days too!

Why anyone would want to go on holiday on Xmas day is beyond me though.....

expatinscotland · 23/03/2008 17:06

people leave on holiday on days like Xmas or Easter because the rates are often far cheaper than if you go even the day before.

Nemoandthefishes · 23/03/2008 17:07

all I can say is thankfully comet is shut otherwise dh would be in work

Jojay · 23/03/2008 17:08

Mmmm, fair enough.

Shame though.

expatinscotland · 23/03/2008 17:09

DH works in teh tourist industry and he, too, had to work.

expatinscotland · 23/03/2008 17:10

But, he's lucky!

His dad works as a church groundskeeper/officer and he's been back and forth to work since 6AM.

And the vicar's not stopped all day!

Cammelia · 23/03/2008 17:11

I flew back from Amsterdam on Easter Sunday once the airports and plane were fabulously empty and klm gave me an easter egg on the plane

mumeeee · 23/03/2008 18:59

YABU. Supermarkets and other big shops are not allowed to open on Easter Sunday. It is onlly one day so shop another time.

pedilia · 23/03/2008 19:05

I live next to a Tesco Extra and people have been shopping over the last 2 days like the shop will never be open again.
It p**s me off, the bloody shop is open 24 hours, 6 days a week and they all pile in like bloody lemmings on a Saturday morning.

People actually queue back on to a major A road just to get to a supermarket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AbbeyA · 23/03/2008 19:58

I think it is wonderful to have them all shut, shop workers can have a break with their families. It is a bit pathetic if people can't organise themselves to do without for only 2 days a year!

ladymariner · 23/03/2008 20:03

Can't really believe you would want to go to a bloody supermarket on easter sunday because you're bored??????!!!!!! fgs, get a life, go for a walk, play a game, do something with your family even......

FourPlusOne · 23/03/2008 20:08

Was just going to say what ladymariner has said!

ladymariner · 23/03/2008 20:09

Thanks, fourplusone, thought it was just me

PuppyMonkey · 23/03/2008 20:14

The bit about being bored was a joke, lady. Thanks anyway. Decided to go to the pub in the end, so got nice and bladdered instead of doing me weekly shop. That's me condemned to hell then. Good job people in pubs can get off their blardy arse and go to work eh? That bit was a joke as well.

sounds hell of a lot more fun than doing a weekly shop, anyway!!
