Universal Credits Switch -- do they actually have a physical address?

LurkingAndVenting · 14/02/2024 11:38

We're currently going through the switch over to Universal Credits.

Of course, our UC came in much lower than the 'old way'.

Also on my online account, I was trying to analyse things. I found some errors. I did phone in. The person on the phone told me to put it in the journal.

So I wrote out a letter with screenshots... meant to send both digitally and via post.

However, I couldn't find a physical mail address for UC.

Also, their journal has no capacity for uploading evidence, such as my entire letter.

AIBU with freakin losing my mind over all that?

I would love to know the answer to this before I ring them, currently trying to figure out how to upload a sick note on my sons journal

BobbyBiscuits · 14/02/2024 15:11

There should be address on your UC decision letter if you have one, that's where to send stuff. It is a DWP freepost address but they have loads so only use the one on your UC letter. If you have no letter I guess ring them again to ask.
Seems a real pain. Out of interest, how much worse was it? I don't want to be nosy about your exact claim but what % lower was it than before?
I'm on ESA and think they might switch me at some point and am having anxiety about it.

Valtine2 · 14/02/2024 15:12

Call UC request a manager. Leave a note under "payments" on your journal too.

Dweetfidilove · 14/02/2024 15:15

Leave a note re additional info and they’ll send you a link for the evidence.

Use the address on your letter.

Pop into a JobCentre. They do UC interviews , etc there so should be able to assist you with submitting documents.

I was on ESA, they did a managed switch over.
I get more now than I did. Even without the child bit I would still get more.
Everything you need to do us explained on the UC website and they send an email to let you know that there is a message. I had a nose around and discovered what each section was for.
I was also assigned a new person to see at the job centre.
I prefer UC because it's paid monthly and I can put money not for bills in a different account and I can forget about the bills.

Dishwashersaurous · 14/02/2024 16:03

Just to say that there are many people who will be better off on UC, particularly if working. So please generally don't worry about the move

Dishwashersaurous · 14/02/2024 16:03

And echo going into the jobcentre to ask for assistance

BobbyBiscuits · 14/02/2024 17:10

@Caswallonthefox Thank you, that's reassuring, though I know each circumstance is different. I'm pleased it's worked out a bit better for you. Silver linings and all that. Hoping mine will be the same. It's more the actual claims process that gives me the jitters. I haven't had an assessment for years and I just wish I never had to do one again, lol.

Caswallonthefox · 14/02/2024 21:51

@BobbyBiscuits
I had the assessment forms for esa through the post in December, filled it out, sent it off and then went to my job centre appt and said I wanted to go onto UC, haven't heard anything since. They also promised that they would make a point if mentioning I'm switching from ESA. I had help through the entire process, because filling out paperwork is one if my mh triggers.
I suppose I'm lucky that my local job centre is a 10 minute walk from my house.
The ESA assessment would have involved a bus ride into a city, another trigger.
The job centre should have a dedicated person for those on ESA, the same as they do for UC.
Go to your job centre and ask what it involves and tell them you can't do it on your own. They are obligated to help.

BobbyBiscuits · 14/02/2024 22:02

@Caswallonthefox Thank you again. If it happens I'm going to ring them as I simply cannot handle the jobcentre. Last time I was there I had a major panic attack. That was about 7 years ago. I'm in support group so don't ever need to go there usually and can't walk there as have PH as well as MH issues.

Caswallonthefox · 15/02/2024 15:23

They can do it over the phone, cuz the pandemic changed things, you know because the Internet and phones didn't exist before then /s

Babyroobs · 15/02/2024 15:28

Just write in the journal. To upload anything I believe they need to send you a link, there's no option to just upload anything. There is a freepost address, but really no need to use it as journal messages do get read. Put the journal message under ' payments' for it to go straight to your case manager who really is the only one who can correct anything that is incorrect.

They need to send you a link to upload a sick note. Is there a request in his ' to do' list to do this ? if not you don't always need to send them in, just put the dates in when asked and hold onto the sick note.

LurkingAndVenting · 17/02/2024 16:37

Great advice, everyone. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I got a direction now =)

You need to ask them to create a ‘to do’ for you to upload your stuff
