Thanks to the kind posters. The pain randomly got so bad I could barely walk so went to my walk-in GP who actually did some very thorough tests right there and said it seems like a groin/thigh adductor strain (not the simplest of strains and will require physio etc). She said these generally come on suddenly and risk factors can be things like weak adductor muscles, or nearby muscle groups, which in my case could be caused by the health condition I have as it affects mobility. So...obviously not life-threatening or anything, but glad I got it checked out, especially considering she said it'll take 4-6 weeks to heal with treatment. I have had anxiety about health in the past ie "omg are these burns serious" after spilling tea, but having new, sudden sharp pain with no immediately obvious cause didn't seem right. Anxious people can also get legit health issues :)
To the posters who've dug up my history and gleefully suggested I seek help for anxiety...
Firstly, how do you know I'm not?
Secondly, given how ubiquitous the occurrence is of women's pain and women's health issues being dismissed by medical professionals, I'm honestly surprised you've been so quick to dismiss my concerns as anxiety. I'm not saying there's no anxiety, but anxiety can coexist with legitimate issues and health anxiety is often the result of having dealt with serious and chronic health issues. It's also interesting how you jumped to the anxiety conclusion and happily handed out advice based on the assumption that it "sounds like a simple muscle strain", as if you're well versed in muscle strains? My GP did various physical tests and said strains in this area can be very persistent and tricky to heal.
Finally, many of you were very quick to hand out the "anxiety" diagnosis...as if it's such a simple diagnosis! A health professional, including a mental health professional, would likely take a history, ask many questions and ascertain the context before settling on that as a diagnosis. I appreciate if you genuinely thought that, but, you know, sudden sharp pain is what I actually wanted advice on. I was hopeful maybe a muscle doctor(?) or physio might see my post.
Anyway, thanks to the kind posters. Gonna go tape my groin now. Ffs.
