To ask if you'd go to the GP for this or am I wasting their time?

After having COVID last year, whenever I get a cold it goes to my chest and results in a dry cough lasting for several weeks. I also have a wheezy cough at night or when in the cold (I sound like Wheezy from Toy Story lol...). I've never had a wheezy cough before COVID, there was a clear before and after of developing the wheezy noise after COVID.

I don't wheeze when I breathe and I'm not breathless. I'm otherwise young and healthy and don't smoke.

Do you think that warrants a GP visit for potential asthma or is it just a minor 'quirk' of mine I need to just get used to?

Yes go to the GP and discuss.

DramaLlamadodah · 12/02/2024 08:50

I would get it investigated. Most likely a routine appt required, If you have option to do an online consultation I would go that route and save the call queue if you can but obvs depends on your set up at your own drs.

trooc · 12/02/2024 08:51

It wouldn't cross my mind tbh.

If it was affecting your ability to breathe I would say otherwise but a minor sound wouldn't make me see a GP, no.

CeilingGranny · 12/02/2024 08:53

I would. You might need some kind of inhaler for a while.

AnnaMagnani · 12/02/2024 09:06

I would go as it sounds a lot like asthma.

SunsetGirl · 12/02/2024 09:08

They are very keen to treat asthma to prevent it worsening!

Itwasfinetillitwasnt · 12/02/2024 09:13

Yes I would when I was pregnant I got a bad chest infection and ended up with asthma. Very similar symptoms you. It didn't get diagnosed till I was loosing weight as was fobbed off with 'it's just a cough'. This was about 19 years ago.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 12/02/2024 09:18

Yes, go and see your GP

Impairment to lung function is a fairly common form of long covid and it needs to be assessed

ColleenDonaghy · 12/02/2024 09:18

Definitely make an appointment. Sounds like asthma and you never fuck around with asthma. You may need a regular inhaler to stay healthy.

hummmmm · 12/02/2024 09:19

You might not even need to see the GP, they might have an asthma nurse (don't know if you need to see a GP to get referred to them or if they can check).

Pipplet · 12/02/2024 09:25

Definitely go. Sounds exactly like asthma.

coughhhh · 12/02/2024 14:53

Thank you all, I rang my GP and have been given an appointment for tomorrow which seems quick! I don't know much about asthma so didn't know it could get worse without treating/using preventer inhalers

My husband has had a terrible cough for 2 months following a bad cold. He went to the dr who’d checked him over, and all was ok. Dr said he’d done the right thing in going though, so I’m glad you’ve made an appointment!
