Inspired by an interior design hates thread, read the whole thing thinking - but what do people love? Feels like lots of trends are very much disliked, so what do people like in terms of decor? For me, it's a bit of personality, decor a certain way because you love it, whether it is deemed out of trend or not. I also love plants, always have (plants however do not love me!)

Minimalistic

Froggy99 · 11/02/2024 21:12

I don’t really do anything matching, if I like something then I’ll get it regardless of if it matches other bits or not.

Mumof2NDers · 11/02/2024 21:13

I like clashing colours and patterns and vintage furniture . And black, lots of black 😀

Aquamarine1029 · 11/02/2024 21:15

For the majority of my home, I like to use neutral, warm tones for the walls and large pieces of furnishings, and then add color through art work and smaller pieces of furniture. I have hardwood floors throughout and use rugs to add warmth. While I do love color, I definitely don't want a cirus-like look, either. I also lean very much towards the minimalist side, in that I don't like a lot of useless tat all about. The things I have on display in my home are either special to me or they have a purpose. A bunch of random crap everywhere would drive me crazy.

GOODCAT · 11/02/2024 21:15

Agree personality is the main thing. I like seeing how other people have their homes a combination of what they need, how they live and stuff that is important. I particularly like pictures and books, but anything that makes a home homely from people, pets, plants to hobbies and interests.

The more that stuff in it that is natural, textural and colourful, the better.

Spacie · 11/02/2024 21:16

Houseplants 😉
Mid century furniture
Autumnal colours

I wish floral sofas would come back into fashion.

Laiste · 11/02/2024 21:16

Architrave. Lots of it.
Deep skirting boards.
Oiled wood floors and tables.
Rugs on stone or wood.
Smooth white ceilings (no artex).
Real stone floors,
Sash windows.
Thick curtains to the floor.
Restored fire places.
Tall brass table lamps.
Matte walls no wall paper.

WizardinTraining · 11/02/2024 21:17

I like homes with personality that reflect the people who live there. I like them to feel loved and thought about and welcoming.

I hate clutter.

HowDoYouSolveAProblemLikeMyRear · 11/02/2024 21:17

I love decor to reflect the people. In style and mood, but also with photos and paintings by relatives or from loved places, and sentimental objects or inherited furniture.

Whilst I prefer maximalism to minimalism, and love lots of books and pictures in general, it's really the beautiful but impersonal showhome look that I find unappealing.

I feel so comfortable and fascinated and happy in a home where it feels like everything has a story, whether it's 3 special objects perfectly arranged on a shelf, or a wall chockablock with memories.

olivehaters · 11/02/2024 21:18

Bare floors with massive rugs that take up almost the whole room instead of carpet.
Green.
The banishing of all things grey!

DuesToTheDirt · 11/02/2024 21:19

Colour on the walls. Books. Plants. Textiles. Paintings.

I'm not a minimalist at all. I like a place to be fairly tidy and clean, but I love having stuff that means something around me.

Are you me?! 😂
I second everything you said.

Prizefighter · 11/02/2024 21:20

Rooms that understand flooring and that use rugs to hold eg seat area or dining area together.

High beds, that look like you need to climb up into them, with really good down pillows fluffed up.

Bathrooms with vinyl, wood or cork floors (or even carpet if done well) - tiles are too cold for me.

Highly pigmented paint that looks gorgeously soft.

Plenty of places to put a mug, sign posted by coasters from places the owner has been.

HelpMebeok · 11/02/2024 21:21

I love

a fireplace

shelves with interesting bits on

rugs

hidden storage

lamps

I don't like

panelling

everything the same colour

lightening that is too bright

Easterness · 11/02/2024 21:22

White walls, beige, cream, no clutter, lots of plants, light calm rooms

AnnaMagnani · 11/02/2024 21:23

I love it when someone has gone for a look and committed to it.

Might be a look I personally don't like but if it's been done as a complete look, brilliant.

CaineRaine · 11/02/2024 21:24

Heritage paint colours

A feature wall (ideally with wallpaper)

Warm toned wood furniture

43ontherocksporfavor · 11/02/2024 21:24

I like lots of different styles. I love some minimalist looks, love retro/ boho/ also like a country look. Depends on the house/room.

Lamelie · 11/02/2024 21:24

I love colour, textures and paintings.
Good lighting- so enough to read and only need overhead light for vacuuming.
Don’t love curtains blinds, strictly functional and if the windows are good enough, nothing.

WillYouPutYourCoatOn · 11/02/2024 21:29

Big.

High ceilings. Big windows. Large rooms. Neutral colours. Dark or ashy wooden floors. Big full curtains. High skirtings. Statement lights. Well placed glass and metal accents.

Edited

Same, until the last one!

My walls are mainly white but I have painted designs in each room. A touch of leopard print here, some random circles there, a random fluorescent pink wall here.

My furniture is all hardwood and timeless. I’ve got maybe 5-6 plants in each room in coordinated but mismatched pots,

I like my house to have a coherent style throughout, but not matching. I don’t like ultra modern but I don’t think it looks dated either.

If I describe my home to people, they don’t like it. When people visit their response is “it isn’t as bad as I thought, I actually quite like it” 😂

(we have just decorated hence why I’m frequently describing my house to people - even in photos it looks overbearing but it isn’t really)

Overloadimplode · 11/02/2024 21:32

Wooden floors
Tiled kitchens and bathrooms
Big windows
Bare walls
White paint
The cleaner and lighter, the better
Victorian tiled porch
Wooden furniture
High ceilings

whatsmynameaga1n · 11/02/2024 21:36

not totally sure what the style would be called but I like countryside style interiors with lots of colour and pattern.

Here is a sample of my inspiration album for my next house!

I like interiors that feel like a home and are a reflection of the owner's life and personality.
A mixture of textures and patterns, textiles, different woods, range of interesting artwork or artefacts.
A combination of more modern and older pieces of furniture, juxtaposed together.
Some kind of feature that's interesting eg fireplace, ceiling rose, arches, feature window.
Not too matchy matchy but with some cohesion in the colour palette.

Fionaville · 11/02/2024 21:41

Dark colours like navy, bottle green and black, mixed with ochre and golds. I like framed artwork on the walls. I usually buy from street painters, hang my own (complete amateur) and the kids paintings.
Framed posters, that have special significance.
I like displaying interesting finds like small rocks and fossils. Just ornamental stuff that I love, not just stuff that fits a scheme.
Built in bookcases, full of books. In fact a bookcase in nearly every room.
Lamps, globes, unique cushion covers, furniture with lots of drawers.
