When would you take you two year old for fresh air after being unwell.

So my almost 3 year old has been really poorly he was admitted and monitored for 2 days home on Tuesday. Since then heโ€™s improved every day ๐Ÿ™ and seems pretty much back to his happy little self ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿคž
but today he was asking to go out so we took him to the seafront for a little walk and he played throwing stones into the ocean. Since coming home Iโ€™ve just been full of anxietyโ€ฆ was it too early to take him out into the cold sea air. I just donโ€™t know what I was thinking, but felt like I couldnโ€™t keep him locked in any longer. Heโ€™s full of energy and asking to go out! Am I being a complete nutcase or should I have kept him in a little longer.

No he needed to get out. Heโ€™ll prob be tired and sleep well tonight which will be good for everyone.

Kids bounce back so fast! Plus if you'd been stuck in hospital/at home for a few days, wouldn't you want some fresh air too? Sounds like you did exactly the right thing. I'm glad he's on the mend, must have been very scary for you.

MaloneMeadow · 11/02/2024 18:19

Heโ€™ll be absolutely fine OP, I think youโ€™re overreacting a bit. Cold air causing illness is a myth - it will have only done him good to get out and about.

notknowledgeable · 11/02/2024 18:21

I'm sure it was the best thing for him

Fightingtobepositive · 11/02/2024 18:53

Thanks your your responses โค๏ธ Iโ€™m an anxious person anyway. But I donโ€™t know. Itโ€™s just something that seemed a good idea at the time. Then looking back at how cold it was Iโ€™ve just got myself worked up. Of course we had him wrapped up and even had my scarf covering most of his mouth to be sure. But Iโ€™m definitely doubting it. I hope we havenโ€™t set him back!

Fresh air would be good for him as long as he was dressed warmly.

Fightingtobepositive · 11/02/2024 19:46

I hope so. I donโ€™t know why we went. A moment of madness and listening to a two year old has caused so much anxiety now.

OP, it wasnโ€™t a moment of madness. Your son needed to get out of the house so you took him, nothing wrong with that and much healthier than being cooped up for days on end. You need to stop over analysing this. Heโ€™s recovered - youโ€™re not setting him back whatsoever.

OCDmama · 11/02/2024 20:07

What is it you think the cold air will have done? That's not how diseases work.

Do you remember being at school and telling the teacher you didn't feel well, and them saying to see how you feel after break time? Virtually always people feel a bit better outside.

BendingSpoons · 11/02/2024 20:12

On seeing your thread title, but before reading your post, my answer was going to be that I would take him out when he wanted to go. If he felt well enough then it's fine to go! He would have told you (or you would have spotted it) if it was too much for him. Understandable you are anxious after a challenging time but this was not a mistake!

BricksTricks · 11/02/2024 20:18

Fresh air will have been good for him. A forced 5 mile march in the rain would have been a bit much, but a short walk throwing a few stones then back home snuggled up is all good.

snoopyfanaccountant · 11/02/2024 20:28

The fresh air will have done him the world of good. It will improve his sleep and the sunlight is important for his health too. You have done nothing wrong by taking him out. Keeping him cooped up in the house with stale air would have been worse for him when he has obviously recovered from whatever he had. Please don't beat yourself up about this decision; you did the right thing.

Thank you all. I do have some reassurance that Iโ€™m not a complete idiot after hearing your comments.
@OCDmama i donโ€™t know Iโ€™m just worried that he wasnโ€™t ready for that burst of cold air. Iโ€™m panicking itโ€™ll affect his throat (he always suffers with his throat when unwell) or just over done it on the physical side. I donโ€™t know I hope Iโ€™m wrong and itโ€™s done him good. He did sleep well so ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿคž

Fresh air is healthy, especially after being in hospital. My baby sleeps outside most days!
