Lighthearted. Ish.

I have unexplained hypertension and therefore take two medications every day. I've had every test and lifestyle question under the sun about it. Every 6 (3?) months I have to have bloods done, weight, height and BP checked to keep the repeat prescriptions going. Not a problem. I monitor my own BP anyway once a week or so just to make sure nothings happening.

Weird little thing to happen though. I was having my BP taken at the clinic and I was actually scolded for being "nosey" for looking at the BP result on the machine afterwards. (I didn't get up or anything. My being nosey was me simply lifting my head and looking at the machine.) As stupid as it sounds for a second there I felt like a child being scolded because the nurse was so snippy. I haven't taken it to heart or anything but it was ridiculous, right? Nurse getting pissed at me?

A little part of me had to stop myself from laughing at her and telling her to get over herself.

Any idea what that was all about? Is it something we can't know about and is for our super secret medical records only? Confused

She was being ridiculous. If course you weren't being nosy - it's your own body.

I'm on a health group where UK sufferers are frequently told we are not allowed to see our CT scans. In US and other countries they are allowed to actually see the information about their own bodies, but here...
It doesn't do much for faith in the NHS or doctors as it seems they're worried they might have missed something the patient might spot and need to do another costly scan Hmm. I'd love to know the extent of my illness by seeing a scan as the Dr only briefly explained my condition while in a room separated by a curtain from an elderly man shouting so I could barely hear her (had spent a day in A&E and apparently having your own room to get a life changing diagnosis is asking too much). So I could really do with a bit more information! Not sure who the system is running for at the moment to be honest.

Ridiculous…

People studying the readings can sometimes then cause it to raise in anticipation, -although so could being shouted at I imagine!-but if you’d needed a second check it could have been even higher. I use a manual sphygmomanometer but when people say ‘what is it?’ When I’ve just said ‘I’m just going to take a second reading’, I don’t tell them yet because it has exactly that effect.

Understandable and I am aware of that. This was the second reading though. They always do two as do I at home. Didn't think it important to say for the post but you're right in that respect.

how come you arent allowed to see ypur scans? i just request to get mine emailed to me, either the GP does it or the receptionist (both has happened).

mehyeahok · 12/02/2024 21:45

I've managed to get a call from my GP tonight (first time I've spoken to him since diagnosis last month) and even he hasn't had my CT scans sent. No idea why they won't let us see them but it's the same for every UK member of the group.

I get told off for this too. They seem obsessed with labelling me white coat hypertensive even though the 24h monitors don't lie- maybe cos it's easier to do that than treat relatively unexplained high bp (I could def do with losing some weight though)
