I've just been watching another LLL where the buyers want to knock through to the kitchen and get rid of the kitchen/dining hatch. AIBU to want to start a SAFE OUR HATCHES campaign. I just love them. They're an evocative part of our history and narrative. Please don't get rid of them/

The first flat we bought in 2013 had a hatch and it was one of the things I loved most about it 😁 Sadly haven't lived anywhere with one since!

I have just sold a house in Portugal which has a sea view when you look through the hatch. I had potential buyers talking about removing the hatch and I actually told them that it was a ridiculous idea to lose the convenience of the hatch and the fabulous view. I would rather look at the sea than a wall or a cupboard ...

My Aunt and Uncle had one in their house in the 80s/90s there was a breakfast bar on the kitchen side of it and at Christmas my uncle would do the conveyor belt game from the generation game and push all the presents across for the kids on the other side to remember.

Cheering at the cuddly toy.

Happy memories.

Oh I love this!

".....a cuddly toy!!!! Woop!...."

Sounds like a lot of fun.

My gran had a hatch in her house, it was a council house built in maybe the 50s or 60s. In hindsight, it was a really big house, with a good layout.

My parents have a hatch in their mid 80's house. DS was there with his cousins the other week and they loved popping up and pulling faces at each other through it.

The hostess trolley sits underneath the hatch on the dining room side. I am not sure it works but the good china (vintage pyrex) is stored in the bottom part.

It’s always been one of those things I would love to have. No idea why I want one but I do.

Hatches make a lot of sense.

Our hostess trolley is invaluable when serving larger numbers.
