Heard chia pudding is good for you, made some for my DS and I (he’s 5 years old) following the recipe:
2 tablespoons chia seeds
125ml milk
2 tsp maple syrup
Soaked them in the fridge overnight and all day because I had forgotten about them. We have just had half each for pudding and now have seen on Google people getting really bloated and having diarrhoea! Now worried my DS is going to be ill (less concerned about myself). How risky is that amount of seeds?

Looking online it is up to two tablespoons daily for adults and around 2 teaspoons for a 5 year old, so he hasn’t had much more than that.

It says on the back of the packet to not have more than 15g a day, which I guess is three teaspoons? So one tablespoon for an adult should be okay; I don't know what the recommendations are for children though... It's probably okay, I doubt he'll be ill. Might just increase the rate of his digestion for a couple of days!

Yes he has?

If you've never had them before it's best to start with adding like a teaspoon to something

Evenstar · 10/02/2024 18:20

@10ThousandSpoons if he had half the pudding made with two tablespoons that would be 1 tablespoon which is 3 teaspoons. I agree definitely better to add a little and build up though, one of our sons went on a health kick and overdid the chia seeds, so it can be unpleasant.

So he's had 50% more than he should have?

Jellybean23 · 10/02/2024 18:30

Unless you are constipated, I'd go easy on that pudding

Oh no, serious mum guilt right now! It’s his friends party tomorrow and he’ll be devastated if he has to miss it 😫so mad at myself. Wish the recipe had a warning!

15 hours later and we’ve had no ill effects yet, I assume we would have been ill by now if it was going to affect us. Phew!

funny how folk down south say poorly

NewyearNC · 11/02/2024 09:31

Don’t worry about it, you and he will be fine after a day or so

ohmywonderment · 11/02/2024 10:25

I’m from Derbyshire and I’d say my family were more northern than southern. People usually think I’m from Yorkshire.
