High vitamin D?

This is going to sound ridiculous but I'm trying to rule things out.
I'd been taking high dose vitamin D daily for about 2 weeks. I've stopped taking them now but this week I've had persistent symptoms of headaches, very dizzy, awful nausea etc. I've been in bed all week with it.

Could it be caused by the vitamin d? Has anyone had anything like this? I'm getting really scared now.

How high was the vitamin D?
You've likely got a virus rather than anything to do with vitamins

They were just Lidl high strength vitamins, I think they are 1000mg.

Do you mean 1000IU which would be 25ug of vitamin D?

crumbleorbreadcrumbs · 09/02/2024 16:28

That's right yeah

crumbleorbreadcrumbs · 09/02/2024 16:28

Sorry NC for another post.. yes that's right I've just had a look x

dementedpixie · 09/02/2024 16:29

The maximum you'd be advised to take is 100ug or 4000IU (without medical advice)

I.e. you haven't taken a huge amount and are still under the daily maximum limit

crumbleorbreadcrumbs · 09/02/2024 16:32

It's unlikely to be that then isn't it :-( I've never had a virus like this with such strange neurological symptoms x

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 09/02/2024 16:32

It's extremely unlikely that taking a supermarket vitamin would cause you any issues, OP, unless you are knocking back handfuls at a time.

Far more likely that you have got a virus.

FWIW I often find that I get a cold or cold symptoms when I start making an effort to take Vit C - because I was probably subconsciously feeling under the weather anyway which prompted me to take the vits in the first place!

crumbleorbreadcrumbs · 09/02/2024 16:34

@TheSandHurtsMyFeelings it's so strange though as I have no cold or flu symptoms. No temp or anything like that. Just literally extreme dizziness, constant headache and relentless nausea since last weekend.

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 09/02/2024 16:44

Sorry, I probably wasn't clear. I'm not saying that your symptoms should be the same. Just that you may have already been a bit run down etc before you took the Vit D.

Obviously if you are concerned you should seek medical advice. I just think it's unlikely to be linked to a standard dose of supermarket vitamins.

crumbleorbreadcrumbs · 09/02/2024 16:49

@TheSandHurtsMyFeelings the reason I started taking it was I've had back to back colds/flu/sickness for what feels like months and my go asked if I took vitamin d so I took it upon myself to buy some.

Do you think these symptoms dizziness nausea headache etc could be a virus with the absence of things like a fever or cold symptoms?

I was prescribed 50,000iu ones a while ago (no I didn't get the 0s wrong lol). And I was advised to continue with a normal dose one for a while, rather than just stop.

Yes I've used the 50,000idu weekly version before and regularly take 6000idu daily for autoimmune so wouldn't worry on that account.

You do need to take co factors with vitamin D though so K2 and magnesium as a minimum otherwise you can cause issues with calcium being laid down in arteries instead of bones among other things.
