Hungover from two glasses of wine

Why?? I had two white wine spritzers last night. Had the last one at about 7pm, had a pizza, and drank soda water for the rest of the night.

Why do I feel so bleary eyed this morning- it's not fair, I wasn't even drunk!!

Are you sure you aren't just tired or getting sick?

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 09/02/2024 07:06

Alcohol affects you differently as you get older. I have long periods where one drink can give me a splitting headache for all the next day. I do have periods where I can drink too, so all is not lost. You may have been a bit under the weather already without knowing. It's rubbish though 🙁

otherwayup · 09/02/2024 07:06

How old are you? I'm 52 and from my mid 40s I suddenly couldn't deal with more than one drink. Previously I could mix drinks all evening and feel fine the next day 😩
Now if I have more than 1 drink I feel unwell for at least 48 hrs - I'm guessing it's the perimenopause and menopause?!

PinkEasterbunny · 09/02/2024 07:11

OP, I’m just the same, a real light-weight these days!

wheo · 09/02/2024 08:22

I'm 30!! So pissed off, sat at work now desperate to go home.

I had a bad cold last week but loads better from that now.

Oh that is spectacularly unfair. I could still drink at 30. Do you have kids? It's just dawned on me that it's since I had children that I can't drink so much. I was assuming it was my age, but maybe pregnancy affects things

TypicalCoach · 09/02/2024 08:32

Possibly the bubbles in the soda water?

Hoglet70 · 09/02/2024 08:32

Sometimes I can drink a bottle of wine and be fine, other times I have a glass and feel rough. It's very random. Am in my 50s but have always been the same. It's the reason I don't dare drink when I have work the next day.

MadamBuxton · 09/02/2024 08:38

Were both drinks before you ate? For me it makes a huge difference if I drink on an empty stomach.

PuppyMonkey · 09/02/2024 08:43

How big were the glasses?

Whiskyfromsmallglasses · 09/02/2024 08:45

I'm the same! I'm 38 and last Friday I had two beers the size of a coke tin and I felt sluggish and ill the next day. This has been a common occurrence for at least a year now. I'm considering just completing stopping. My dh swears the amount of water you drink that day is a big contributory factor

Samsond · 09/02/2024 08:48

Id be the same. I've decided to just not bother with alcohol any more. I haven't missed it so far and I'm 2 months in. Thought Christmas day might be tricky but I had Nozeco instead of prosecco and it was totally fine 😁

TooOldForThisNonsense · 09/02/2024 08:49

I don’t drink and sometimes still feel “hungover” in the morning!

dehydration maybe?

Angrymum22 · 09/02/2024 08:50

I developed a reaction to white wine in my 30s. Just one small glass causes sleepless night, really hot seats and a 2 day hangover. Interestingly I’m ok on organic Prosecco. I was ok with red wine but eventually started having the same reaction. Nowadays if I have a drink it is gin and only a small measure with loads of tonic.
I can’t remember the chemical in white wine that causes the reaction but it is a known problem.

Limenlemon · 09/02/2024 12:58

Might have been the wine, some are higher in sulphates I think.

DPotter · 09/02/2024 13:09

Drinking on an empty stomach can do it for me. Same quantity with and after a meal - no headache.

GingerIsBest · 09/02/2024 13:17

Where you are in your cycle can affect how alcohol affects you.

Also, how big were the glasses? One thing I always have to be careful about is that if I'm out, and I order 2 large glasses of wine, that's actually 2/3 of a bottle. a "big" night drinking at home would be half a bottle, more usually 1/3 of a bottle.

Daffyyellow · 09/02/2024 13:43

I find that it’s the habits associated with evening drinking that tend to give me that hungover feeling - late nights, socialising etc, rather than the actual alcohol intake.
