Different hourly rate for deep clean

I am a bit naive but is it a new thing?
I needed some help today to do a clean as we are moving to a new place.
I was quoted £16 an hour however when the cleaner arrived she moaned that it was actually a deep clean I wanted from her and that it should actually be £19 an hour.
I don't really understand why the difference in rates, is it just me or is that common practise?

I agree with you but it does seem to be a thing. It particularly annoys me with my regular cleaner because those things wouldn't be a deep clean if she did them regularly 😂

Maybe it's more strenuous doing a deep clean?

During covid the term deep clean was prevalent, and it is different from a normal clean. A deep clean involves cleaning walls, ceilings and blinds, light fittings so lots of ‘highs’. A normal clean is just that, where you wipe surfaces, glass, clean the floors etc

Different, more expensive equipment like steamers etc….

The cleaner should of checked and looked beforehand surely?. Cleaning is hard work so yes a few extra pound is reasonable but to huff and puff isn't though.

A deep clean is just a spring clean - it predates Covid by some way..

It’s more energetic which is why they charge more, but if you get your cleaner to do it in bits you can avoid the extra.

Hi if it’s a first time clean usually the house isn’t as clean as the owners think it is.

So when I had a company the first clean was always a deep clean (inside cupboards, windows, skirting boards, walls, any woodwork polished, the first time we do a shower it’s usually very lime scaled and lots of other things) so the next time she comes back those things aren’t as difficult to clean. Then once a month she could be doing the windows, inside doors etc.

So yes she’s right it should have been more for the first clean. Hope that helps a little.
