Would you tell a colleague….

If the manager has been moaning about them?

On Tuesday my manager had a day off and left jobs for the teams to complete. On Wednesday she complained to myself and another member of staff that 3 members of the team (that we were not working with that day) had not completed the jobs and she would have to spend time doing it.
I saw on Tuesday the team members doing the job they were asked to do and they would have done it correctly as it is a job they do regularly so not a case of they don’t know what they are doing.
Would you tell a colleague that the manager accused them of not doing their job?

No, I’d keep my nose out.

Did you tell manager you saw the colleagues doing the job on Tuesday?

DistinguishedSocialCommenator · 08/02/2024 15:16

It all depends on how close I was to my co-workers and if I could trust them not mouthing off and it coming back to you

My last but one line manager was weak. He'd tell me how others in a so-called supervisors' meeting had negative things to say about me. After a few weeks, I told him to not to tell me and tell them to come to me directly. No one did as they were all fully of envy and crap

So let your manager do his/her dirty work and stir their own pot of crap

This

Muchof · 08/02/2024 15:19

No. But if the manager had said a colleague hadn’t done something and I knew they had, I would have said so to the manager, not run off and started telling tales behind her back.

KreedKafer · 08/02/2024 15:20

I’d tell the manager that your colleagues definitely did the job because you saw them doing it, and that maybe there’s a misunderstanding and you wouldn’t want her to waste time on a job that’s already been done.

bridgetreilly · 08/02/2024 15:29

It is the manager’s responsibility. So either point out to the manager that they are wrong or let the manager start saying things to people’s faces so they can be corrected.

InSpainTheRain · 08/02/2024 17:00

No I wouldn't say anything. But I would have said to the manager that I saw them doing it and what was wrong because they were experienced staff. Perhaps call the manager out (in a nice friendly way) and see what happens.

Iam4eels · 08/02/2024 17:06

If I saw my colleague doing the job they were being accused of not doing then I'd say I saw them.

I wouldn't go telling my colleague what a manager was saying about them though unless it crossed a line (e.g., discrimination).

My number one rule for a happy work life is to not get involved in workplace drama. That and no socialising with colleagues (for much the same reason).

Did you tell manager you saw the colleagues doing the job on Tuesday?

Yes why didn't you say something when they started accusing them of not doing it?

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 08/02/2024 17:12

I'd bring it up with the manager.
My manager said to me yesterday that a colleague was slacking off, he told me I need to pull them up on it, I replied that's not my job plus she's a higher grade than me.
After I thought about the actual accusation today, he was completely wrong so I sent him an email setting out why he was wrong and what actually happened.
I also told my colleague what he said, he's a bit of a dick so we have each other's back.
In your position I wouldn't tell your colleague, I'm friends with mine

MissRheingold · 08/02/2024 17:14

Keep your beak out.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 08/02/2024 20:03

If there's isn't a positive outcome for anyone here, you, colleagues and manager, why would bother?

You are only creating needless drama.

BobbyBiscuits · 08/02/2024 20:07

No. But the manager sounds like an arse. They probably hadn't even looked at the others' stats for the day and were just moaning and venting in an unprofessional way. Just watch the manager/ what you say round them a bit though, they sound a bit snakey.

TheBeehive · 08/02/2024 20:10

Id usually keep quite

5128gap · 08/02/2024 20:26

No. Not unless I was happy with the manager knowing I was indiscreet and a trouble maker. If your colleagues tackle it with her they will no doubt need to tell her you told them, and you won't be popular. If you think your managers behaviour was that bad it cant go ignored, then you should raise it with their manager, not involve yourself in a game of Chinese whispers.

Zanatdy · 08/02/2024 20:28

Well it would depend on my relationship with coworker and how they might react to it. But probably
