Head lice again

Eleanor1984 · 07/02/2024 16:27

Back story
My oldest 6 has long thick hair and has head head lice on and off since last Jan. Treated when noticed and then comb daily when in school.
Youngest 3 has short fine very blond hair and attends preschool. Seems to get them occasionally and for.some reason seems to spot them when they are big. Maybe the ones that transfer from sibling.
Preschool have started checking her hair daily and saying she might not be able to come in if they are not gone. I haven't seen any on her in 2 weeks but the treatments have irritated her scalp and she scratches a lot.
Preschool have asked me to take her to GP, which I have done, they have reported to health visitor who said I can't do anymore.
I have found out today they are taking bobbles out of hair and checking for lice only for my child no other children.
I have text them to say I have not consented for this and am not happy with it. I just want to check I am not being unreasonable.

It totally stinks that your kids keep getting head lice. Glad that you are trying to stay on top of it. If it were me, I'd be washing everything in the house everyday and coating everyone's hair in Vasoline 24/7. But in all seriousness, I don't think the school has done anything wrong? If it's your kids that have lice continously, they are just doing their due diligence to catch it and send them home so it doesn't spread if they notice.

Not sure how they can do this. Dd's both work in the same nursery and 1 dc has nits.. Loads. And her dm corn plaited her hair so she must have seen them. Apparently nursery aren't allowed to mention it.. So now our house of 10 is checking constantly.. And our extended family. And presumably all the staff. Because they can't prod one lazy fucker to get nit lotion. Which BTW is free from chemist's if you go show them your nit infested dc..
Bloody rant over.

Ting20161987 · 07/02/2024 16:44

I am sick of bloody nits too. Spend my life getting rid of them, to send her back to school to get them again. Its never ending

Tooolde · 07/02/2024 16:51

I think yabu.
They are only doing this as your child has them continuously.
You need to treat on day 1whole family
then repeat x days later
Then repeat.

My dd still had one after treatment 1 as did I...
It definitely didnt seem to kill the actual nits (eggs)

I had them but dh in same bed didnt so they werent wandering around pillows etc.

If your eldest's hair tied back or plaited?

MummytoAAandX · 07/02/2024 17:47

Do you use a tea tree oil shampoo. That's meant to deter them? I use a vosene one

Eleanor1984 · 07/02/2024 21:02

Yes my oldest hair is always plaited. I have used tea tree essential oil in a water spray to comb the hair with no difference.
I wash and change pillow cases as soon as an outbreak starts and wash all the bedding on the same day.
I treat on day 1 and follow the advice and treatment plan on the bottles.
The two things that annoy me most are
1, I haven't been asked to consent to this
2, she hasn't had a lice for 2 weeks at least and they have only started checking this week. Which feels like she is being picked out.

No they shouldn't be removing bobbles and rifling through her hair without your consent.

You might be cheaper using conditioner and a lice comb every few days for 3 weeks during an infestation

RocketPanda · 07/02/2024 21:16

The best method I found for getting rid of lice is to use conditioner on dry hair and comb with a nit comb every day for 3 weeks.
