Baby fed on raw milk formula

EmmaOvary · 07/02/2024 15:58

Does anyone know anyone who does this? As in, raw, unpasteurised cow’s milk, from birth. Mixed with other stuff to make ‘formula.’ Met someone who gave her baby this and I am shocked.

It's an extreme example of the

Natural = no chemicals = healthy

Vs

Processed = chemicals = unhealthy (and lower class)

Misapprehension that crops up a lot. People try and live heavily and avoid processed food and completely miss the point that some processes are invaluable.

You can also get brucellosis from raw milk, it's sounds awful, in fact the information from the NHS condition page says don't drink raw milk and children are more likely to get it badly.

Hopefully all dairy cows are TB tested I know the cattle where a relative hires a workshop has the vets in doing TB testing of the cattle.

Cows aren’t tested daily for TB. It’s not a risk I’d take with newborn.

Dogdilemma2000 · 07/02/2024 21:42

“You must test your cattle for TB at least: once every 6 months if your herd is in the High Risk Area ( HRA ) once a year or once every 6 months if your herd is in the Edge Area ( EA ) once every 4 years if your herd is in the Low Risk Area ( LRA )”

So there’s a full 6 months in which a herd can go from TB free to TB positive. It only takes one badger.

But TB is natural! We're all being told we need good bacteria.

Update: group leader apologised for not challenging it and says she will if it comes up again.

That's good, this needs nipping in the bud so more babies aren't harmed.

I read this thread yesterday, really glad you raised it. Hopefully the group leader will look into safeguarding.

Stuff like this makes me really angry, and sad. The illness risk for children from raw cows milk is just not worth it. And the amounts of vitamin A and iron tiny babies will be getting from blended up liver. But as stupid as it is, the people doing it are new parents who genuinely think they are doing the best by their child. The selfish idiots who tout this stuff who usually have something to sell are far worse.

Yes and I have often seen on mumsnet posters talking about how unhealthy they believe infant formula is because it is an ultra processed food. Yes, breastfeeding is the preferred mode for feeding but for those who experience difficulty with it or choose not to for whatever reason then formula is the only safe and valid alternative. Also, infant formula is not to be placed in the same category of ultra processed foods such as oven chips and chocolate, but people seem to believe that it is.

My mum and her sibling were fed on cows milk from birth …but this was the 1940’s , I can’t believe anyone would believe this is the best option these days! How weird!
