to stand in the election

As an independent.

Basically for environment, housing and public transport. We need more and cheaper housing, but we need to protect the environment when we build it, so repurposing old empty building and brown field sites is important. We have far too many cars on the road, and need to invest in better, more reliable and cheaper public transport to reduce the need to drive.

I don't expect to get elected, but I would expect enough votes to make the main parties rethink these issues locally. At the moment they don't seem to think about them at all.

My employer is fine with me standing.

Why don't you expect to get elected?

Have confidence in yourself and go for it! 👍

Forgive me, but I think you’d be quite likely to lose your deposit. Have you looked into how much it costs to have election literature printed? How will you get it delivered? Do you have any sort of support, and how much time do you think you could spend canvassing? You won’t make the main parties reconsider the issues locally - you’d be better off standing for the local or county council if that’s your aim.

Go for it OP.

Democracy NEEDS more people like you!

Make your voice heard. That you have a supportive employer is fantastic.

All the best to you!!!

In a general election or local? For general there is a £500 deposit to be paid which you only get back if you get a certain percentage of votes.

Bless you. But you really won't I'm afraid.

Are you prepared to lose your £500 deposit?

I certainly will lose my deposit! I have no doubt about that

I suspect your employer is fine with you standing to get rid of a delusional employee.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 07/02/2024 01:08

How many do you think this is?.Why do you think you'd get them? And what election are you thinking of standing in? If it's a general election, a single seat is very unlikely to make the main parties change any policies; if it's local, most of those issue are more about national policy.

BobbyBiscuits · 07/02/2024 01:11

Why not? You seem to want to. Your desires are admirable. Do you have support? You'll need to produce lots of marketing materials and engage on social and have firm policies and go door knocking. If you can handle that then do it. Anything to detract from the Tories!
