100 tampons Lyrics
[Verse]
Remember when NASA sent a woman to space for only six days and they gave her
100 tampons
100 tampons
And asked, "Will that be enough?"
'Cause they didn't know if that was enough
These are our nation's greatest minds
They are literally rocket scientists
100 tampons
100 tampons
I can picture it now
Come with me
I'm Sally Ride and I'm going to space for the first time
I'm walking tall, I feel so proud, then I see a man running panicked through the crowd
He's holding a large bag
I think, "What can this be?"
And then he hands 100 tampons to me
And then he hands 100 tampons to me
For one week
They could've asked me
I would've said "Maybe 33"
'Cause even if it were my period week
I might've already brought some with me
But you know
Thanks, I guess
100 tampons
A hundred tampons
526.000 tampons
526.000 tampons, in space

Nobody teaches boys about periods.

Tunsmet · 06/02/2024 19:09

Do NASA not have any female rocket scientists who could laugh 'hysterically' in the faces of the male rocket scientists?

TheNavyBee · 06/02/2024 19:09

well, you know what, it is a valid question, and it might not be enough for me, depending on the size

I hope so XD

If you have a heavy flow, try menstrual cups. They are a fecking life changer. Big ones can survive 6x more blood than a super ultra tampon..

I was a teen in the 90s, from a rather sheltered mining village 'up north', but all boys were taught alongside girls about periods. Completely and fully, including handling sanitary protection, and demonstrating how it all worked using water and diagrams. And now my primary school aged DS is being taught about periods too.

I'd never expect a developed country, especially the US, to not be teaching boys about periods. That's really depressing.

Menstrual cups are DEFINITELY not going to work in Space 😂

Cheeesus · 06/02/2024 19:20

We talk about periods a lot here, so my husband and two sons are pretty informed I think.

Yes, they did, and they asked her.

Doormatnomore · 06/02/2024 19:22

No one teaches boys rocket science a
either, they have to go out of their way to learn it. They researched how to poo in space, I imagine that involved embarrassing and awkward questions.
that story always makes me wonder with all the health testing astronauts must need surely female astronauts have to know if they will be on or not, and their specialist drs must know? If ever there was a time to run 2 months of birth control back to back.

Malarandras · 06/02/2024 19:23

Maybe I am missing something here, but not all women are the e same. I have had incredibly heavy periods at time and 100 probably would not have been enough for 2 weeks! Also I like the idea of a moon cup in space, I doubt the practicalities of that though!

happyinahoodie · 06/02/2024 19:23

Very sure- yes!

This is talking about Mars and on the moon in the distant future. In places where there is gravity.

We are talking about an astronaut in zero gravity today. What is going to happen when she removes the cup and all the blood and tissue floats out of it? The space station will look like a movie set of a massacre

RobertaFirmino · 06/02/2024 19:24

Well, this did happen 40 years ago, in 1984. I'd like to think NASA are better informed these days.

Jioyt · 06/02/2024 19:28

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 06/02/2024 19:07

Nobody teaches boys about periods.

My son learned about periods in Year 5. However, I highly doubt that the lessons included how many tampons a girl/woman needs per day or throughout their period.

I don't use tampons and would never know how many is a reasonable number to use over a day.

IlsSortLaPlupartAuNuitMostly · 06/02/2024 19:33

It could be worse. A male relative came out of his sex education lessons allegedly fully informed about periods but he still thought that women would need twelve or thirteen pads a year. The lesson explained carefully why menstruation happened, what it consisted of, and demonstrated the volume, but didn't think to mention that it went on for several days and that women had essentially no control over flow during that time.
