To think all these Warwickshire Councillors should be fired?

If you haven’t seen the video from there Warwickshire Council meeting discussing SEND and their comments then I’ll post below (sorry but it’s the DM. The video is about halfway down).

Some comments seemed to be suggesting that these children deserve to return to institutions, to be ‘punished’ for having special educational needs. These idiots are not just ignorant, they’re dangerous. If you’ve never been around a group of children with SEND then let me tell you it’s heartbreaking. I have ADHD and life is a fucking struggle. I’m disgusted that people in power can hold such views and think they’re so acceptable they say them allowed in public.

Warwickshire councillors slammed for comments about disabled children

Warwickshire county councillors Brian Hammersley, Jeff Morgan, and Claire Golby have been labelled as ignorant as they come under intense pressure to stand down.

I’m shocked at how this works. So the government gets to pass the buck to councils and councillors get to pass it onto parents and children. No wonder SEND is in such a mess. They’ve had how many years to sort this? Guess it suits Tory government.

It's Jackie worboys all over again

Twats

My mum worked for the civil service for decades. Believe me you dont have to be clever to get A job there. Dinosaur men with DM attitudes. The waste is also shocking. She is retired now but has been bringing this up for years.

@unexpectediteminthebraggingarea I love your username 😀

I have been to council meetings (over a local planning issue). They were in the day and I was only able to go because I was freelancing then. I wouldn't be able to now and I don't do an office job either. I can't exactly log on and watch councillors in the middle of an A-level lesson!

Although proceedings were old-fashioned (I had to say if I was Miss or Mrs!) the councillors were nothing like the Warwickshire lot.

I realise day time ones aren't easy for people to go to, but I cover evening ones and they are equally poorly attended (fully appreciate that's as much because everyone leads busy lives now). I actually thought the pandemic was good as so many more people watched when we live streamed the committees

However I think most councils do now record them meetings and share them afterwards.

@GreenBottleHanging I'm glad you and your community is very engaged. Turnout at local elections suggests that is unusual.

I'm obviously not defending the way they spoke about SEND children, you'll note I did use the word abhorrent. I'm attempting to explain how we as a society have got to this point, because I'm pretty sure the people of Warwickshire didn't wake up one morning last May and decide to vote to make children's lives harder.

I agree the language used by the councillors wasn't well considered, but, it was clearly heavily edited and t think they were trying to understand why there is an enormous increase in SEN which LAs clearly can't cope with, those kinds of rises should be looked into when LAs are going bankrupt on the back of them, I also think they were talking more about the MH side which was included in the last reforms and has led to a huge increase of EHCPs rather than disabilities and complex needs. They need to understand this is a very sensitive issue, especially for people with lived experience and shouldn't use this kind of language.
