Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Sorry to post in here but it's for the weekend and not many seats left so need somewhere with high traffic - mods please move if I'm being unreasonable doing this!!

Going to London for a couple of days with DH at the weekend. We were hoping to see Mama Mia but stupidly dithered and now the only seats left are the ones costing £££'s

There is some availability for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I love the Harry Potter books and films but hated the script of this when it was released. Harry felt like a completely different character and nothing seemed to tie in properly.

However I know it's got excellent reviews so I am tempted to book, but it's still fairly pricey, so don't want to pay all that and hate it!

Also how does it work for food etc with it being the 2 shows? I don't want to sit there with a rumbling stomach 😂

YABU - if you hated the script why are you even considering going

YANBU - the show is so good your hatred for the script will be magicked away

If you decide I'm being unreasonable, any other suggestions for shows would be appreciated! Loved the Lion King and I'd watch it again but DH wants something new.

The staging is so amazing; the story is a bit irreverent. Just eat before and between shows? Plenty of time between.

I really enjoyed it. Went for DD’s birthday and booked a nearby restaurant for the break. Went back for the second but only to be told the performance was cancelled (not uncommon, apparently).
We had fantastic seats and were given equally fantastic, free seats to another performance (both bits) so we came back a few months later and saw them both - 3 for the price of 2.

So good! I've seen it twice, the first time I hadn't read the script.

You will love it!

Look for pre theatre deals at nearby restaurants, you can get usually a set menu in a nice place for a cheaper price and we managed to squeeze it between the 2 shows.

Thought I'd update for those who kindly replied and also in case anyone searches this thread for future advice

We've just finished the end of part one and glad we decided to go - I'm not hating it at all, which is what I was worried about

First half of part one I thought was fine but not bowled over, really got into the second half. The special effects are excellent, especially the dementors

People rustling food packages = 😬

Also the lack of toilets!

Will update at end of part 2 hope it's not one of the ones that gets cancelled

@MadCatLady27 - we were obviously there on the same day! My DD8 adored it, second watch for me, still pretty magical (except for the women behind who felt the need to giggle/chat to their pals after every special effect 😬).

Oh that would have annoyed me so much I think I'd have turned round and told them to stfu 😬

All the children in my area were really well behaved, there was one visibily flagging in the queue for the toilet before the second half of part 2, but it was lovely to see children who had been taught how to sit in a theatre properly!

Where were you sat? We were in the dress circle, really good seats, the ground floor ones looked like you'd get a cricked neck having to keep looking up at the stage

@MadCatLady27 the kids were beautifully behaved it was the grown ups! 😂 I did speak to them but made no difference. We were in stalls really good views.
