For someone leaving?

used to just give a few quid in the envelope to pretty much everyone, but now we all WFH most of the time collections are always online and I feel embarrassed to paypal over less than a fiver, so do that (occasionally a bit more, e.g. if my current manager left I'd give a tenner or so) for people I work directly with and like, and nothing for people I don't know very well - feel a bit bad but at least that way it evens out a bit.

lazyarse123 · 06/02/2024 17:23

We don't do it any more as we have had quite a big turnover lately and most are part time so we don't always work with each other. There are only two of us that have worked there a long time and we tend to buy for each other now.

By exception, usually will sign a card.

Startingagainandagain · 06/02/2024 17:33

Nothing.

I used to try to make an effort but learned the hard way: when I was off sick for 2 months after a life threatening episode I never heard anything from my team (I would at least have expected a get well card)

When I came back to work from sick leave my birthday was soon after that and it was ignored (everyone usually gets a card from the team as someone keeps a birthday calendar). They instead randomly sent me a birthday card almost two month later saying that everyone was 'busy' on my birthday so they had only got around to getting a card together...which I thought was ridiculous.

I work for a charity so my salary is not great ever and I can't justify contributing to all the constant requests so now I ignore them all with no guilt whatsoever.

Between £0 and £20 does img o how much I like them and how flush I am. £10 would probably be the standard for someone in my team or I worked closely with, a fiver for someone I didn’t work that closely with, £20 for someone I like and nothing for the very rare case of someone I actively dislike

Starseeking · 06/02/2024 21:30

I will generally put in £20, especially for those from my team.

I put in £0 if the person had not been a pleasant employee, my team or not.

HappyDaze23 · 06/02/2024 21:34

As one of the senior leaders in a team, I typically give £20 for leaving, baby gift, wedding gift etc. but might drop that to £10 for someone who’s leaving who hadn’t been around long.

Deafening · 06/02/2024 21:36

Nothing now.

Wallywobbles · 07/02/2024 07:42

Between €20-75, depending how much I work with them and how much they contribute to my wellbeing at work.

Riverlee · 07/02/2024 07:45

£5 for someone who’s been there bc a while or £2 for newer people, or whatever change I have in my purse.

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 07/02/2024 07:45

I don’t. I used to chuck in a fiver but no one ever does a collection for me so gave up after Ds1 13 years ago when I decided money could be better spent and to stop being a “joiner”
