Pokes head through door

Hi all, this is my first post, so please be nice to me!

I have been following this board for AGES and been dying to post in the AIBU section! So here goes!

I bought takeaway last night (it's a secret, am on a diet ) - soup, spring rolls, chicken/veg and rice. Was full up after the soup, so when my landlady came in (I rent a room in their house), I said there was some chinese on the side. She ate ALL of the chicken.

Lunchtime today, I say to landlord "I'm having some rice, would you like some?". He replies, "Not now, may do later." So I leave him half (I would have eaten it all had he not said that).

Teatime - they are discussing what they can have for dinner. Decide to use the rice and make a lovely meal - lamb, veg, the lot. Smelt ABSOLUTELY wonderful. Maybe it smelt so good because I was hungry. They are not normally great cooks!

Did they offer me any? You guessed it!

Am I being unreasonable to be furious about this? I mean, I paid £15 for a chinese meal and ended up having SOUP! (and a few prawn crackers!).

Grrrr!

They are landlords...professional bloodsuckers, so their behaviour is pretty normal for their profession I'd say!
Don't ever offer them the shirt off your back!

Wisteria · 21/03/2008 18:18

yabu, you offered. They may hjave thought it was going to waste as not many would reheat a takeaway anyway.

It's a bad, bad idea to heat up takeaway rice by the way. It can make you extremely poorly. Why did you order so much?

WanderingTrolley · 21/03/2008 18:20

Well, you did offer her the chicken - not unreasonable to assume you didn't want any of it if you were full. Having said that, a bit rude to not ask you if she could finish it off. Same for the rice - I guess they assumed you didn't want it at all.

Still, you know for next time the gannets

PS there's more to mumsnet than AIBU!

Raeanne · 21/03/2008 18:50

I didn't think I was ordering alot until it arrived

It's not the fact that they helped themselves to it - as you say, I offered. It's the fact that they used it to cook a meal, and then didn't offer me any. I ALWAYS offer them if I am cooking. To be fair, they normally offer me, too. The issue is that they were using my food and then didn't offer.

Realise there is more to mumsnet than AIBU. Loving the site, it's great! It's just that AIBU amuses me more than the other boards. As a nanny, I have found Mumsnet more than useful at times. Yay for Mumsnet!

Raeanne that would have pissed me off too.
When someone offers their food to share it is impolite to take MORT of it!

Look on the bright side, it will help you on your path to slimness.

YANBU - Mind you maybe you were lucky. My ex landlady once asked me to eat dinner with her and her Dad and then gave me much less, all the crap bits and NO GRAVY because there was none left after they had theirs. I think her cat had a better meal than me.

runragged76 · 21/03/2008 20:07

YANBU - I would be p'd off too. In future, don't offer them any of your leftovers. I would put them in the bin out of spite .

DeeRiguer · 21/03/2008 20:08

bit mean i agree
but as stated they are landlords

almummy that is shabby, no way to treat a guest..

ALMummy · 21/03/2008 20:29

I know DeeRiguer. I just thought by doing that she was inadvertantly letting me know how beneath her she thought I was. I didnt want the best meal but I dont want to be treated like Oliver Twist either. Funnily enough I started looking for a new place shortly after that.

she was
glad you got out..
