To want to put a shield round me before my important surgery in 2 weeks

I've been in pain for 2 years and after a catalogue of mistakes, I'm finally getting my hysterectomy in 2 weeks.
I am now terrified of getting ill beforehand. I'm having to work too and everyone seems to be ill. I am wearing a mask but my anxiety is through the roof. I wish I could put a protective shield around myself!!!! X

imagine the impact on the economy if everyone took sick leave or stress leave before an operation!!

Who cares? This is a one off event for this one particular scenario. I'm sure her company will be fine and I'm sure she's paid her dues in the past to justify taking a bit of time off before a life changing (in a good way) operation. Work isn't the be all end all and very occasionally as a one off people need time out. Flu is absolutely rife at the moment so I personally wouldn't risk it. Also the economy is already fucked thanks to our hopeless government so no worries there.

who cares? what about? giving advice to throw a sickie or grow on sick leave before an operation?

unless the OP works in a vacuum, other people will be impacted.

and tens of thousands of people are in the build up to an operation…. if all followed your advice… well!

insidethisissue · 06/02/2024 15:55

what if the operation was cancelled because there the surgeon had gone off on sick leave or stress to incubate himself before his own operation?

or theatre couldn’t operate because too short staffed because 2 members of a team have operations coming up over the next week or so?

Use the first defence nose spray and gargle the chlorhexidene type mouth washes. Use the FFP3 masks with a valve and go and sit in your car or outside to take it off to eat.

Definitely wear a mask and minimise contact with other people if you can. I currently have Covid which I caught at A&E. Lots of people now think their obligation to protect others has finished. A&E had loads of people happily announcing at reception that they had Covid along with whatever they were in for. No masks and no attempts at distancing.

come again? that was a poorly run a&e not to make them wear face masks upon being told they were covid positive

@insidethisissue yeah, we were pretty stunned. I now have the pleasure of a hacking cough combined with the torn shoulder I was in A&E for. Thanks heaps, "just a cold" brigade.
