..to not know how to handle this?

More a wwyd.
A friend took her coat for dry cleaning. It has faux fur on hood and sleeves. It's a Karen Millen coat and had cost about £250 on sale.

She explained to the dry cleaner that she didn't want to wash it at home in the washing machine as it will spoil the faux fur bit. He agreed and said he knew what to do. He even told her he would not even put it in the drier so it will take longer to dry. Told her to come back in a week.

I go with her to pick coat and the fur is all clumped up, matted and buts of it feel singed.

He insisted there was nothing they could do to remedy the situation. Eventually he said he will speak to the manager/owner. The coat was left there. He has since turned verbally aggressive

Friend has also since found out that the person we spoke to is actually the manager/owner.
This all happened last week.

Friend is going back today to speak with them. The coat is permanently damaged. But friend feels the dry cleaners should apologise and even offer a financial compensation.

Anyone had to deal with something similar? I would be going with her today. How can she handle this? How much should she expect them to offer her? Any laws that cover this tye of thing?
Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Small claims court.

Report to Trading standards, although they can’t help with a refund.

This is not for a dry cleaning business, it's for financial businesses.

Small claims court OP.

Thank you, everyone.
Hopefully, friend gets a more appropriate response today.

I have no advice other than what pp have shared but that's not on. If they couldn't guarantee the fur they shouldn't have taken the coat. Oh and it sounds like a typical bloke trying to bully a woman into backing down so you and your friend hold your nerves OP and don't be intimidated

Thanks, Everyone.
Yes, he was trying to intimidate her. Today, he was more polite and quickly adjusted his behaviour when he was called out.
Today, they are claiming they only did what was recommended on the garment label.
Obviously, that can't be proven or disproven.
Thanks, everyone.
