What length curtains would you put on this window?

We've just moved so excuse the mismatched furniture etc we are waiting on delivery of our new sofas and blinds, these were already here. It's a really big window (240cm x 103xm) considering the size of the room.

We will have a 2 seater sofa along that wall soon, do I need floor length curtains, curtains that sit just below the window sill or a kind of in between length? I've never had such a large window in a lounge before so not sure what will look right. Thanks!

I'd get some which hang to about the height of that wooden unit. Floor length would be odd.

silverbubbles · 04/02/2024 22:10

if you have a sofa below the windows perhaps a roman blind would look better?

elm26 · 04/02/2024 22:11

The wooden unit won't be there much longer, there will be a sofa so do you think still that length? Thanks @TigerOnTour

That's a good point @silverbubbles I just like curtains for a cosy/homely feel x

Second vote for Roman blind. :-)

Catlover77 · 04/02/2024 22:13

Not short curtains

QueenBitch666 · 04/02/2024 22:14

I'd have a blind

DaisyDaffodil · 04/02/2024 22:15

Are you keeping the blind? It would depend on what blind I was going to put up before I decided on curtains.

SleepingBeautySnores · 04/02/2024 22:19

With a window of that width you could go for floor length or just below the sill, definitely nothing in between. I think I would wait until you get the sofa before deciding, as if the sofa doesn't cover the complete width of the window, it might be better to go for floor length, but either way, make sure you use a track or pole with a pull cord, otherwise you'll be forever struggling to get the curtains to hang properly in the middle, as you'll have to reach over the sofa to close them. Personally, I wouldn't go for a blind either, as the window is too wide.

elm26 · 04/02/2024 22:19

No I don't like the dark wood blind, we were going to order a light wood one but now I've gone and ordered some samples for a Roman blind instead, didn't even think about it so thank you! Hoping to try and find a match for the colour of our rug.

Excuse the paws he likes to get in the way 😂♥️

Curtains should always be long, unless maybe in a kids room or for a very good reason to be short.

elm26 · 04/02/2024 22:24

Again, please excuse the mismatch of furniture. The coffee table under the tv has been sold awaiting collection and there is just stuff randomly everywhere (remind me never to move ever again especially with an 8 month old). This is the colour of the feature wall. Would you match Roman blind or curtains to the green of the feature wall or the creamy colour of the other walls/rug?

I wouldn’t have curtains at all and I’d get a Roman blind. I hate curtains tbh!

Perfectlystill · 04/02/2024 22:29

Def not short curtains

BridgerGo · 04/02/2024 22:31

Never short curtains.

floor length ones are always my preference. If you really want a sofa along that wall, have you got space to have it about a foot or so away from the wall?

re: colour, either match the creamy shade of your rug or go same kind of tone (?) as walls but much darker.

TheOGCCL · 04/02/2024 22:34

I'd have a blind, not curtains with a window like that. Short curtains won't look stylish and it sounds like long ones will get in the way. In between is just an awkward length.

PosyPrettyToes · 04/02/2024 22:36

I think a blind would look better - it's quite a stubby window.

WinterDeWinter · 04/02/2024 22:39

Agree with others, never short curtains - if you can't have long, which I agree would look odd because the window is unusually short and wide, have a blind instead. Roman blinds can feel quite cosy if you get a heavy natural fabric with a bit of texture to it. Not to my personal taste, but an inset border in the same fabric but different colour can make them look a bit more 'intentional' and could work quite nicely here.

Or this velvet one sounds gross but actually looks quite clarsey Wink and would feel a bit more 'cosy'?

Towerofsong · 04/02/2024 22:42

Personally, I'd go for a blind and then if you want the softness of curtains just to frame your window each side, go for a floor length voile

But that's just me, I don't like curtains. If you live somewhere cold you might want curtains for warmth though, in which case I'd still go for floor length

SleepingBeautySnores · 04/02/2024 23:53

Why are so many people saying they would go for a blind when the OP has already said she has blinds on order? If you don't have any other major patterns in the room, and you can find them, you could always go for a creamy background to match the rug with a green pattern in the fabric, assuming that the rest of the walls are staying cream. What colour are your sofa and new blind for that window going to be?

Diamondcurtains · 04/02/2024 23:55

I’d go to the floor with curtains.

Breathmiller · 05/02/2024 09:34

I know you are looking at roman blinds now which I think would be lovely. But if you have your heart set on curtains I would go long.

I know this image is with a bed but similar set up with your window and sofa. You would just have to have your sofa pulled a little forward so they draped behind when closed.
