To think we can have a Moses basket from the start?

Looking at Next to Me/bedside cribs but not sure about the longevity of them for the price you pay. We are having a full size cotbed in the nursery and a Moses basket for downstairs.

I don’t want to co-sleep anyway so the side down feature of a bedside crib is surely a bit redundant for us. I will however be breastfeeding if I can.

AIBU to just buy one of those larger Moses baskets with an extra stand for upstairs? I am thinking we can buy a bedside crib secondhand once baby is here if we feel we really need one?

Can you get the cot into your room? If you van I'd do that and forget buying multiple other beds.

Yes that’s the most sensible solution.

Yes, so you pick up the basket by the handles with the baby inside and take it upstairs, supporting the underneath.
I must have done it hundreds of times with my children.

It's not recommended because it's very common for the baby to shift their weight and the whole thing tips and they fall out. Especially dangerous if it happens e.g. on the stairs.

Also the handles aren't really designed to carry the baby's weight and could snap (though I think this is a bit more far-fetched!)

A swaddled tiny baby isn’t going to move at all. They’re only in a basket for a few weeks.

I had a Moses basket for both of mine. The next to me things didn’t fit the bed we had. Mine were fine in the Moses baskets and went into a cot around 4 months old

Mine slept in a Moses basket upstairs and in a big pram downstairs

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/02/2024 09:38

I was same as you

Had 2 Moses basket. One in bedroom. One downstairs

I don't like next to me as like own space and tbh better to get out or bed to fed /settle baby rather then fall asleep with them next door to uou imo

Our baby had a Moses basket from birth then into a cot

Mine were too big for moses baskets, huge babies, but we had a carrycot which we used.

We used a Moses basket next to our bed on a rocking stand from birth but only for a couple of months. I had big, long, wriggly babies and they didn't fit for long! Also, it's unsafe to use a Moses basket once babies start to become more mobile. If they're trying to roll, pushing up with their arms when on their tummy etc. then it's not safe. If I'd known about next-to-me cribs I would definitely have chosen one.
