What to change before 40

Posting here for traffic.

I turn 39 this Friday. It has made me think so so much about turning 40 and the fact that I only have a year to sort my life out ha! I dont know why, don't you usually think like this when youve turned 40, not before? Haha

Anyway I thought it would be good to ask for some ideas about the key things I should try and tackle, life lessons I should learn etc. this year, to make this time next year feel much more positive.

What do you plan on changing/fixing/starting when you're 40, or did you change/fix/start when you turned 40?

All areas of life considered 😊 help!

Thank you, hive mind 😁

Sort out your financial planning

Do not take health for granted. Start exercising. Go to your health checks. It all starts to get a lot creakier from now on - but you can make a huge difference if you look after yourself.

Do an exercise like write your obituary or imagine how you want your life to be when you retire, and make any changes needed to give you that life

If you are going to think that 40 is too late to do something (new hobby, lose weight, run a 10K, have a baby, learn a language, change career) start now.

It's just a number.

I love that - plan backwards ❤️

My obituary would probably say 'Never heard of her'

Health and finances. That looks different for everyone - but now is the time to get it in check.

In the year I turned 40 I made some lists of things I wanted to achieve. Some were fun things like 'visit 40 pubs', 'have 40 days out', 'read 40 great books'. I also made a list of health and financial checks to tick off. It felt like a really good time for a reset and I actually achieved loads that year.

If you're not already, try to get to an ideal weight and train yourself to exercise and eat well...it gets so much harder after 40 and your body starts to "break" in ways you wouldn't have thought of.

I was a proper couch potato in my 30s and had a goal of being able to do the splits by my 40th with the aim of having a photo of myself doing the splits somewhere fabulous on my bday. I managed it! Tbf it only took a few months of being really consistent. I look a bit daft doing it so the photo is for my personal collection only haha. I also decided to go running regularly and am proud of my 10k time Grin. You might be picturing someone slim and fit but nope lol. Most importantly I can see my heart health has improved which is major for me as the female line in my family ALL have suffered from heart problems.
