i am in a total dilemma. about 5 years ago i bought a lovely hand made dolls house, which is covered, in detail, with matchsticks. but then we moved to a smaller place. the dolls house hasnt been played with much, except recently by dd3 who uses it as a climbing frame.

it really does need re-working inside, as it has rather fetching, not to scale, 70/80's wallpaper inside.

not sure whether to sell it or not.

[sighs]

can you keep it with the excuse your next baby might play with it?

Psychomum5 · 21/03/2008 13:12

oh no, never sell a dolls house. well, not IMO anyway.

mine have only really now started appreciating their dolls house (which was mine first) in the last couple of years....and DD3 is now very into them and she is 9.....only got her a decent one for her 8th b/day. (mine is ok, but not decent).

you may regret it in a few years if you do.

Is it the sort of thing you can keep in the loft for your future grandchildren. It sounds like something I won't part with and it could be a good project for you one day.

misdee · 21/03/2008 13:13

but its taking up so much room.

it is lovely.

am wondering if it will fare ok in the playhouse in the garden.

If you're not sure, don't sell it.

Psychomum5 · 21/03/2008 13:15

it may during the dry months, but I wouldn;t during the winter.

I take it then that it is too big to put on top of a wardrobe for now??

ninedragons · 21/03/2008 13:22

Can your parents or another family member store it for you? Dolls' houses are the toys most likely to turn into treasured heirlooms, I think.

And yeah, save it for the next baby! Congratulations, btw, I'm very pleased for you.

misdee · 21/03/2008 13:23

its too big to put anywhere.

its was built in the 70's so is quite old. i bought it from the man who built it for his children. he has etched all the windows so they have lead window effect. it does look dated and isnt anything like the dolls house emporium stuff.

might see if i can fit in through the loft hatch tonight.

Could you store it in some elses loft? It sounds far to good to get rid. If it was me, I would defo put it away for a refurb project in the future.
