Chances of a healthy baby at 40?

I'm 39 this year. I have 2 children but wouldn't rule out a 3rd as I still have that nagging feeling that I'm not quite "done" yet.

My question is... what are my chances of conceiving a healthy baby at 39/40? Anyone got experience of this, or older? Any positive or negatives equally welcome!

Thank you.

My mum had me (her only biological child) when she was 42. I was perfectly healthy. She had a difficult birth though (undiagnosed breech) which created some long term issues. I don't know if her age was a factor.

I did struggle at school with some bullying - taunted that my parents were "old" - I think that's much less likely these days and was primarily because my dad was 53. He died when I was 33.

I know someone who had her 2nd child at age 50 (happy accident) - perfectly healthy.

The sample included 12,081 children with data at both time points. The overall prevalence of SEN was 11.2%,

At any age there is a risk whether 43 or 23

And risks increase with maternal age

So once again you have posted a link which does not support your assertion.

Your first link is about gestational age at which the baby is born, with only ‘mean age’ of mother listed, the second says ‘May’, and talks about chromosomal conditions way way less common than 10%, and miscarriages, which are not what you were talking about.

My dd had her 3rd at nearly 43, all fine. There’s no doubt that risks are greater, though.
