Is it OK if I sell a gift my child doesn't use?

My mother bought DS a toni box 2 years ago he never listens to it he preferes to be read to. On top if that the characters are so expensive for only one story. I was thinking to sell the box and just put the money in his savings or buy him something he'd actually use, but I feel guilty!! Should I talk to my mother first or just sell it and hope she doesnt notice its gone? For reference my mother is NOT the most reasonable person.

I used to sell or giveaway unwanted or grown out of toys. I can’t say I ever reinvested the proceeds in DCs account. Although it’s a good idea
