111 are three hours late for a within two hours call back. Wondering if they are likely to call.

Call them back - I've never had them but call back within the time frame

hoarahloux · 03/02/2024 13:22

Took about 3 hours for me the other day. They're very busy.

FredaFox · 03/02/2024 13:34

They took 8 hours for my mum last year
By then she had got worse and had been taken to a&e in an ambulance
When they rang and I said we were at the hospital they just said sorry we have been busy

Had a text after three hours linking to medical advice. I dont know if this means they have reviewed things and decided dont need a call.

We waited 11 hours last week. They eventually rang and said go to A&E. it's not for for purpose but then again, neither is the NHS

24 hours when I called them. Same for my colleague. It was a total shit show.

When I was pregnant, I called them at 5pm in agony with toothache. I appreciate that there isn't always anything you can do, but they said a medical professional would call me back. It got worse and worse but after lots of tears, I'd fallen asleep with exhaustion at 5am - I was clutching the phone and everything waiting for this call back. They then called me at around 6.30am and told me to call the emergency dentist line when it opened at 10am. Far from helpful to be honest.

When I've called about my husband, both times they uplevelled him to an ambulance which was surprisingly quick (and the right call as he had sepsis which required hospital admission to treat). Calls for my son have been less useful, with the general advice being to go to A&E - yet we call 111 to try and avoid putting unnecessary strain on A&E if something like GoToDoc/the out of hours doctor would be an option.

So, a mixed bag here, definitely.

Agree on the mixed bag experience. The ooh doc said to go to the ooh without bothering with 111 if symptoms cane back. His arguement seemed to be that for a sensible patient who knows if they need treatment all ooh does is an unnecessary delay to treatment meaning people are sicker and take more resources to treat
