Neighbours dumping rubbish

I share a back alley with around 10 other houses. I've had stuff dumped in the alley outside my house before and ended up cleaning it. Other times I've rang the council. Now someone had dumped a few bits from DIY which would fit in my bin, albeit take much room up. It's a locked alley so it has to be one of the neighbours. My friend thinks I should throw the rubbish back down the alley rather than put it in my bin. I'm so pissed that this keeps happening but I'm thinking that I may get in trouble for flytipping if I go throwing it elsewhere and anyone sees.

It’s not your responsibility to keep cleaning that up. Absolutely not. If you keep clearing it, they’re going to keep dumping it. If it were me, I’d leave it, call the council to ask them to kindly remove, and then also write a letter to all residents involved to ask them to stop. It’s definitely not your issue

Thank you @TonyaD1986 . While I leave it there though I fear some of the neighbours might think I'm the scruffy one.

I’ve just got dad a post you did in July explaining how your NDN dump things in the alleyway, my guess it’s still them. Move it further to their side

@TonyaD1986 I agree that its probably them again. Their garden is a mess anyway so they won't care where they dump pipes etc. I've put the pipes in my bin now but I want to get them out and just dump them outside my property. Would that look like I'm flytipping though?

I meant to write dump them outside their property.

Sounds like you need a camera.

But yeah, you could get done for fly tipping if you're caught on someone else's camera.

SpeedbirdSquawker · 03/02/2024 18:34

I will just keep the items in my bin for now then. Can I use a camera trained on an area where other people use?

People are just awful!!! It really made my day miserable knowing I'm living near people who don't give a shit.

Be careful because once you pick up litter or fly tipped stuff it becomes your responsibility and you could be in trouble for dumping it elsewhere.

Why not take pics and along with a polite note, post thru’ neighbours’ doors?

I feel your pain. Such selfish irresponsible behaviour by others.

SpeedbirdSquawker · 04/02/2024 11:15

I've emailed the council to tell them what has happened and that I've put the stuff in my own bin but asked if they can put leaflets through the doors on my terrace warning about flytipping.
