We received a letter from school advising of the dangers of too much screen time, and to not watch screens before bed as can affect sleep. Do any parents feel as torn as I do, my children watch tv, iPads etc but then when I turn it off and say time for homework it’s all online. This makes me feel like we can’t get a break from the screen I know it is new technology and everything is online. Thoughts

Is ot really as rare as you think though? I used to work as a therapist for a charity in my area aiming to help the hardest to reach people in community. Therapy was initially meant to be done online but we had to change it because so many of our clients had no access to either a device other than a phone or WiFi and a ton of my clients were parents so if they didn't have access to technology the kids didn't either. I'm sure schools will give access in school time but is this really appropriate? When is the time given surely children shouldn't be missing their breaks having that time to reset, eat and interact with their peers is extremely important. But equally taking them out of class would be detrimental to their education and single them out as well. With the current cost of living crisis I think it's awful of schools to assume that children have access to these things.

My own family are pretty well off but we only have work laptops and phones, there's no device my children could use. Luckily mine are little yet but I suppose I'll have to buy one when they get older and I will soon have three so will there be enough time to all use one or am I going to have to fork out for three devices. That's a huge cost especially when families are struggling atm.

My DD’s school is entirely computer based. Very little is done on paper, mostly math. Students in secondary are all issued laptops. They submit their class work and homework online. It’s a system that happens to work very well for my ND teen.

active work on a computer is not the same as passively scrolling the internet.

Don't know what school your DC go to, but mine definitely don't get laptops at their school (which is a mainstream academy with a lot of Sen students although afaik mine arent) still get books and if a lesson is computer based then they are not laptops either and have to go to one of the specialist rooms with computers in them.
