So chicken breast was cooked on Sunday. Meant to be eaten on tues but didn’t. It’ll be fine today won’t it? I say yes, DH says no.

Yes, it'll be fine

I have quite relaxed when it comes to use by and bbd. I think would probably take a nibble today and if it tastes ok I would eat it if it I has been reheated properly and doesn't look discoloured or slimey. I think even I would give it a miss tomorrow. Usually it's 3 days for cooked food depending on when it was cooked on Sunday it's only day 4, i would draw a line at day 5, for day 4 i rely on my instincts and hope for the best. It's not gone wrong so far. There are times when I feel uneasy about it and then it goes in the bin

It’s not going to be warmed up as pit with some salad. I’m sure it’ll be fine. Pretty sure I’ve had some of those pre cooked chickens from the supermarket before which have a week until expiry and always been fine.

I have just eaten a chicken sandwich with chicken roasted on Sunday.
As long as its been kept in the fridge I would risk it if it looks and smells ok. Might heat thoroughly I was being risk averse.

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/02/2024 12:31

If you put it in the fridge as soon as it cooled and it's been in the fridge, I would probably eat it, but it'd be at my limit of eating. I wouldn't serve it to guests. Day 4 (counting day of cooking as day 1) is my limit for dismembering a the remains of a roast chicken and eating one portion and putting the rest in the deepfreeze for a few days. I don't expect this adheres to official guidance or to food hygiene regulations so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else, including you.

Mynewnameis · 01/02/2024 12:31

I would

unbelievablescenes · 01/02/2024 12:38

Day 4 is within my limits so I'd eat it as long as it smells ok. Tbf id probably put it in a hot dish preferably at that stage but would still eat it if I had specific plans

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 01/02/2024 13:03

I'm very risk averse but I'd eat it. I often do a roast chicken on a Sunday. There are only two of us. We usually have it cold on a Tuesday and I make soup on the Thursday. (Not a Mumsnet chicken boast Grin). DH sometimes eats any leftover soup on Friday. We've never been ill.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 01/02/2024 13:06

I'd eat it but I'd definitely heat it through first, it'll still be nice in a pitta with salad

The high water content and low salt in chicken means that bacteria grow quickly in cooked chicken. The cfu count will be high and way past what it should be. Although unless there’s been cross contamination, it won’t be pathogenic bacteria. Possibly a presence of Staph. Aureus at worst.
It’s not going to make you seriously ill but your stomach may not thank you!
