To be worried about the fact I forget where I'm sitting in the office?

I work in a large open plan office where we hot seat so we tend to sit in different places each time. I tend to book my seat early so I can be near the window, and my team tends to sit in a certain area of the office. That said, whenever I get up to go and get a drink, go to a meeting or go to the loo I can never remember where I'm sat. I usually make sure to leave something on my desk like my bright water bottle, or I make a mental note of who I'm sat next to. I always feel over-stimulated in the office, it's noisy and bright and I hate being there so I'm not sure if that's why.

Does anyone else do this? Is it normal? lol

I do forget other things to do with spatial things, like I'll forget when coming out of a shop onto the high street I tend to walk the wrong way/not remember which way I was walking down the street. It also takes me a long time to learn where things are, like where certain meeting rooms are or the way back to my hotel room, etc.

Very normal. I never know which way to turn coming out of shops or where my desk is.

I think it's normal for some of us! I don't go to the loo when at the theatre/ cinema because I know I'll never find my way back! I struggle to find my car in car parks. Don't know left and right. Also crap with names and faces 🤣 I'm not diagnosed with anything and only in my 30s. I'm going to be absolutely hopeless in old age!

I thought I was going to have to report my car stolen a couple of weeks ago. Not a particularly large supermarket car park, and I looked around more then once. Car definitely was not there. Took a while before I remembered I'd actually gone out in DHs car that day. Probably walked past it three times without realising.

I’m the same! I work in lots of different schools and can never remember my way around them.

I am also terrible with faces! Don’t recognise a lot of people I may have met in work/out and about. I’m fine with friends and family but if I’ve met someone briefly I’m unlikely to recognise them again (unless they look quite unique)

I can relate! I don't think it is all down to a failure of memory though as, if I stop and think, I can often recall which way I moved after getting up from my desk and work out where I had been sat.

I also have some traits similar to aphantasia and find it hard / impossible to visualise or recall a clear visual image of something, whether that's a face, or a desk or an office layout so I don't know if it's linked to that for me.

I'm exactly the same! I'm also pretty poor at remembering routes driving anywhere, until the advent of Google maps I avoided driving anywhere unknown. I also find numbers very abstract.

I got up from my desk today. The same one I have sat in for about four years. Walked part way down the office for something. Came back and could not remember which one was mine. Had to look for my stuff on the desk.
Did worry a bit about that but am putting it down to a generally bad day.

This. Sometimes I have to ask the dog where the car is. Blush

Are the desks numbered and if so, could you take a notebook with you with the number written in it?

Very normal! I kept forgetting silly things and had severely low vitamin b12, also got tingly hands and feet every so often and felt breathless and as though my fitness level didn't match my body or lifestyle ( ie should be good and look good but felt out of breath jogging ), get it checked!
