Worried about time off

I’ve only been in my job 8 months and a few weeks ago I needed surgery to deal with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Initially I was signed off for 2 weeks and today I’ve found out I need to be signed off for 2 more weeks. I’m worried this is a lot of time when I’m so new myself. I have apologised. I’ve only had good feedback in work so far. I know there’s nothing I can do because I just can’t work at the moment. AIBU to think my new employer is going to be unimpressed though? It’s the only illness/ time off I’ve had since I started. Everyone has been lovely but it’s difficult not to worry.

In my experience its about how many incidents of sickness you have rather than length of time off.
This is clearly unfortunate and can't really be helped, a decent employer will understand.
Hope you recover quickly

I think employers are fine with one off serious issues. Btw if you were to be in a redundancy situation this time can’t be considered as part of the matrix points thing.

Please try not to worry. It's not under your control so you cant be responsible for it. They are being kind and understanding, accept it and let yourself rest, mentally as well as physically!

This is a pregnancy related illness so you can't be penalised for it.

Hopefully you have a reasonable employer and they won't try to discipline you or anything but the law is on your side in this instance.

It feels awful being off and feeling like you're letting people down... But, you're not letting anyone down. You're recovering as you need to.

Thank you. Hopefully it will be ok. If not there’s nothing I can do about it, so trying not to worry!

I’m sorry for your loss
You are protected under the Equality Act 2010 for pregnancy related absence and if your employer penalised you for this, it could amount to discrimination. They’d be silly to even go there.
Try not to worry, you need to recuperate and take the time/get the support needed. Put yourself first x
