Signs of UTI in toddlers

Dd2 has been acting offish the past few days. Not unwell particularly, eating like normal and playing. But she has had a high temperature on two occasions (which came down with calpol) and has been very clingy and grizzly.

She is prone to ear infections but this doesn't seem consistent with her usual symptoms. I've noticed her grab her nappy area a few times as if she's in pain so I wondered if it could be a UTI? I'm not experienced with this but I know girls are more prone to them than boys. She is only just 2 so can't tell me.

Would there be obvious signs for this? Her wee doesn't smell and she doesn't look red but her nappies don't seem as wet as usual despite her drinking like normal. Would a GP be able to test a sample without actually seeing her? It's a nightmare trying to get an appointment with our GP and as I said, she isn't unwell as such.

Any advice?

Its worth asking your surgery if they will treat a sample without an appointment but I've also found that when I've suspected a uti in a ridley before that's been enough for an urgent appointment

I'm clutching at straws to be honest. I don't suspect it other than I know she's not totally been herself and she's grabbed her nappy a few times. And she's had a temperature twice but she's had no calpol all day and has been fine. So I don't know.

Just make an appointment. Before you go ask reception for a nappy collector and a sample pot and take a sample with you.

she’s clearly unwell and needs ears/throat looking at as well etc.
