What are some Items that have made your life better?

Am turning to MN for inspiration

It’s my 30th this year and the big trip DH and I had planned is off the cards due to DD (honestly the thought of taking this raccoon child on a plane fills me with nothing but anxiety) so I’ve now been asked what I want as my gift(s) instead of the trip.

These need to be good enough to make me not miss spending time on a beach in the Bahamas.

Im going down the route of items that are costly so I’ve never justified getting them for myself. Or just a bit frivolous but why not.

Only things I can think of atm is a Stanley straw cup (don’t even @ me I know it’s basic but I want a pretty one) and a ninja CREAMi as I love ice cream and always wanted an ice cream maker (and now we have the perfect size gap on the kitchen counter since DDs steriliser is no longer in use)

So wise women of MN. What items have made your life better, any products you wish you had got earlier in your life that has made such an impact on your day to day life or mood?

In order of preference
A Decree Absolute
A quooker tap

ChaToilLeam · 30/01/2024 16:00

A dehumidifier - gets laundry dry so much quicker and zaps condensation

A Steam Pod hair straightener ❤️ my wild hair stays straight for days

A Spotify subscription so I can make playlists

Birkenstock sandals for the hot summers we get here, they are so comfy but you need to get exactly the right size

Good quality thread for my sewing machine - far fewer breaks and snags. And really good quality fabric scissors.

I definitely wouldn't want something for the house as a birthday present!

Things that I've had most pleasure from include:

A spa weekend with girlfriends;
A week at a health resort with a friend;
City breaks with DH but without children eg 4 days in Rome, 4 days in Vienna, 5 days in NYC...
Driving down Highway One in an open-top Ford Mustang;

Piglet89 · 30/01/2024 16:01

AIRFRYER.

eldorado02 · 30/01/2024 16:02

The robot lawn mower is a great idea in theory, but we ended up sending ours back as the installation of the boundary wire was a bloody nightmare in our garden!

I bought a red light face mask device from Current Body last year and love it.

Piglet89 · 30/01/2024 16:03

also: CAT

Chisssweeze · 30/01/2024 16:07

@Piglet89 DH has said no to live animals - so tempted to LTB

A Sonos Roam speaker which I can carry around and play in any room I am in. (Including bathroom as it's water resistant). Game changer.

Walking2024now24days · 30/01/2024 16:29

Why not just postpone for a year, get her more used to sleep overs at Granny's or wherever she goes.

obviously get a nice present too 😁

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 30/01/2024 16:48

A garden trampoline. I love using it.

SnappyDragony · 30/01/2024 17:21

This is probably quite a boring one and nowhere near as glam as some of the suggestions.
I got a computerised sewing machine and some half decent acrylic paints, brushes and sketch pad. I really liked the fact these gifts were so I could better practice my hobbies and whenever I use them they make me happy.

spicedlemonpie · 30/01/2024 19:03

My vintage typewriter love it.

My suggestions were glam events that I've really enjoyed but I also dabble in arts & crafts so I totally understand how your gifts would make you happy. 🖌🎨💐

If it helps it's been reported that the Bahamas is really dangerous atm..the U.S. has issued a travel advisory as there's been 18 murders recently.

Do the trip later, get diamonds now 🤩🤩

As somebody who dreads the winter as they feel the cold terribly I can honestly say this winter has been a revelation. Bought myself a heated throw and a heated bed blanket - oh my days my life has changed. I cannot believe I got to 46 and have suffered all those years!

Nottodaythankyou123 · 31/01/2024 18:36

Also turning 30 this year and no big hol due to 2 young DD so these were my ideas:
Longchamp bag
Birkenstock clogs or sandals
The furry/fluffy lined Doc Marten boots
Spa day
Robot hoover (usually anti house gifts for birthday presents but do fancy one of these…)
Course of facials
Running trainers
Course of reformer Pilates sessions
Laser eye surgery (might be quite above budget haha but would genuinely change my life!)
Am Following this thread for other life changing items!

devildeepbluesea · 31/01/2024 18:41

Bareback Quebec boots. They’re the best things I’ve ever put my feet into, and will do the muddiest walks and deepest puddles with no leakage. They also clean up well and are beautiful - I’m planning on cleaning them off and wearing them out on Saturday to watch the rugby.

mondaytosunday · 31/01/2024 20:52

A quooker boiling water tap. How did I survive without it?

thistimelastweek · 31/01/2024 20:57

A chaise longue.

I'm not even kidding.

IAmAnIdiot123 · 31/01/2024 21:02

I would be getting a bean to cup coffee machine which does milk and all the fancy shit. It's my next milestone birthday gift plan. Happy birthday!!

Nachtvlinder · 31/01/2024 21:08

Sony noise-cancelling headphones
Ninja 15-in-1 Foodi
Zojirushi flask 600ml
Bosch washing machine
Miele cat/dog vacumn cleaner
Decent bedding
Velvet sofa
Decent rucksack/waterproofs etc.,
Samsonite trolleycase

Am very careful with money so I will take an age doing lots of research before I buy (can often take weeks/months/years!)

Getupandgogogo · 31/01/2024 21:14

Turtle doves wrist warmers
Chanel sunglasses
Giant fleece hoody
Ninja smoothie maker
All these things make me happy x

Getupandgogogo · 31/01/2024 21:15

Oh and if you have a dog a dog blaster is life changing!

QueenOfWeeds · 31/01/2024 21:22

You probably don’t need it with a one year old, but I loved my daylight alarm clock thingy before DD came along.

I asked for money towards some family photos - I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m really pleased we have nice group shots rather than wonky selfies or something with a random bit of lamppost in the background.

And yes - the cordless vacuum. DH dug his heels in over it but I wore him down and he came upstairs the other night and admitted he was wrong. My Dyson hairdryer was fine, my GHD hairdryer was better, and I couldn’t get my sister’s air wrap to work on my hair for love or money, so suggest you try one before putting it on the list.
