BIAB nails chipped really easily

I had a manicure Saturday. I was recommended biab as my nails are soft and brittle. On Sunday I noticed they started to chip. I have EDS, which I suspect contributes to my weak nails. I've contacted the manicurist who has stated that as there's nothing wrong with her application but it's my EDS she isn't offering anything to rectify the situation. I did ask to get them redone, but with tips because I think my nails do better with a more solid base, and to just pay 50%, but she has said no. I eventually have had to cut the nail that's chipped as my nail under had completely ripped. I noticed the biab gel cut really easily? Is it supposed to be easy to cut? When I have cut gel nails they don't cut this easily? I'm confused as I though BIAB was supposed to be stronger than gel?

So…
AIBU - the manicurist has done the work and maybe it is because of my eds so no need to rectify.

AINBU - the manicurist should work with me to rectify the situation? Id be happy to do this as I know my nails are tricky but with the hope we can get the right balance with trial and error?

First picture - chip, has now been cut.
Second and third picture - showing white tip which hasn't been capped properly which undermines integrity of product.

I wouldn't want to be on her books to be fair, she's shit.

This.
Cut your losses.

Absolutely find somewhere else, she should be asking about how you use your hands, your lifestyle etc, as well as your medical conditions, and helping you choose a service which works best for you. She sounds rubbish.

This was the first time I had them done verses 10 weeks later.

Make sure you oil your nails daily too.

I have biab on my fairly weak nails. I couldn't possibly cut them with a scissors. They are far too thick and strong. In the salon they cut them with the same nail clippers that you would use for acrylic nails.

Thanks. I though BIAB was boil-in-a-bag. 😁

100% going to think of this comment next time I'm booking 😆😆

Glad that's not just me that thought this was odd. She states that none of her other clients have an issue? Maybe it is something to do with my nails? Would this be possible?

Other thumb now chipped and I've cut the nail and looking down at the nail both Biab gel are different thicknesses.

I’ve been getting BIAB for 2 years and rarely ever get a chip, only if the nail underneath had a “snag”. They definitely should not be chipping after a couple of days

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome?

I also think they look like a very bad job OP. No offence meant. I have really flaky nails and they aren't great without biab. My last two nail places they used to break and chip but now I go to a place where I get biab and shellac on top and they last weeks

You've just picked a bad tech I'm afraid.

I have EDS and BIAB. My nails are rock solid and extremely healthy underneath. I am hard on my nails, but only lose/chip them if I let them get too long.

Do you have more info on biab and shellac on top?

I was wondering whether the flimsy nails meant the biab couldn't adhere? But then when I looked into it biab is recommended for weak nails, so should have actually need good for them? Her response has been disappointing as she has refused to accept poor workmanship on her behalf and totally blamed my EDS.

Shellac is just a brand of gel colour made by a company called CND. Basically the same as what you've already had - biab/builder gel and then gel colour on top.

JellyIegs · 29/01/2024 22:29

A Superdrug near me has a beauty salon which offers BIAB manicures using ORLY products. Mentioning it here if you might feel more comfortable going to a larger provider rather than a stand-alone tech renting a space. Could be easier to go back with any issues?

I have BIAB and my nails are still pristine after weeks of pretty tough treatment. No chips, just the growth at the bottom. Good luck OP.
