To send my 4yo to school?

He was up twice in the night being sick.

He's woke up about an hour ago, running about full of energy as normal and you wouldn't know he had been up during the night.

IMO he would be lay in bed/on the sofa like he usually is when he is sick if he wasn't well. I don't want to keep him off school if it can be helped.

AIBU to think of sending him in?

Well the rules are 48hrs off if vomiting aren’t they? I’d keep him off at least today personally

Enko · 29/01/2024 07:20

Yabu. He will likely still be contagious

Monsterjam · 29/01/2024 07:21

Don’t send him in to potentially make other kids sick 😤

Zonder · 29/01/2024 07:22

Don't send him in. You wouldn't like it if someone else did that and your child caught their bug.

Josette77 · 29/01/2024 07:23

Do not send him.

Snoozymoozy · 29/01/2024 07:23

Yeah why not send him in, then 30 other sets of parents can spend the night dealing with vomit tonight 🙄
Hope your child's not in my school..

twinkletoesimnot · 29/01/2024 07:24

Yes you ABU.
And very selfish.
Please don't- as a teacher and parent.

Cannot actually believe you're asking really.

bishbashboshjobsagoodun · 29/01/2024 07:25

No you do what the rest of us have to do and keep him off til Wednesday. Sick is sick regardless of cause unfortunately.

Nursemumma92 · 29/01/2024 07:25

Absolutely don't send him in! It's not just about him, he could give it to other children which is just selfish.

Sirzy · 29/01/2024 07:28

YABVU.

he needs to stay home to avoid passing it on to others.

i know a parent who’s 6 year old son was sick on the Monday night, she did the right thing and kept him off school the Tuesday but when picking up sibling commented how fine they had been all day. By the Wednesday the sibling was also off because they had picked up the same bug. Thankfully because they were sensible spread was reduced.

EsmeeMerlin · 29/01/2024 07:29

Do not send him in! I work in a school and we have had numerous sickness bugs in the class because parents send children in who have vomited the night before. He has to be off for 48 hours.

Blessedbethefruitz · 29/01/2024 07:29

This is why I've had 6 vomiting bugs in the last 8 months. Please keep home. Other people have to work too.

Queijo · 29/01/2024 07:29

The rules are so simple - 48 hours off after the last episode of sickness or diarrhoea. He needs to be off until Wednesday.

PingPongPiddlyPong · 29/01/2024 07:31

He probably caught it off another child who was sent in after being sick the night before.

ChaosAndCrumbs · 29/01/2024 07:32

No. The 48h rule is protective of others, not the child themselves. Equally, unless there’s a very clear other reason (small amount due to a cough etc), it’s likely he still needs some extra rest whether he seems to or not.

Familiaritybreedscontemptso · 29/01/2024 07:33

Also when he tells the adults at school he was ill in the night they are going to think very badly of you / send him home anyway.

dementedpixie · 29/01/2024 07:34

Absolutely no way should you be sending them to school after being sick in the night

Dogdilemma2000 · 29/01/2024 07:34

YABU. He needs to stay off for 48 hours after last episode of vomiting.

unless you actually want to make others sick?

gluggle · 29/01/2024 07:35

YABVU!

pinkstanleycup · 29/01/2024 07:35

I will keep him off to be sure. I'm not sure if it is a contagious sickness bug or just something he's eaten over the weekend.

Yabu

Smartiepants79 · 29/01/2024 07:36

Don’t send him.
He’ll tell his friends/teacher and they’ll phone you to come and get him. He’ll be back home by 9:30.
The rules are no return until he’s 48hrs vomit free.
Can’t even believe you’re considering it to be honest.

Don't send him, 48 hour rule unless you know for sure it isn't a bug.

Well yes that’s the point, you don’t know so you follow the schools rules of 48hrs so he goes back in Wednesday if no more episodes.

Lemonademoney · 29/01/2024 07:38

Absolutely do not send him in. Surely this is obvious. I spoke to a mum at the school gates the other day who’d sent her daughter in when she’d been sick that morning as she was ‘sure’ it was due to her cough - unsurprisingly three more kids in that class were off vomiting by the end of the week.
