AIBU?

to want a dry haircut, and to have the option of not having to pay for someone to wash my hair two hours after I've washed it and blowdried it myself?

I called a hairdressers today to book an appointment for a normal (three or four inches off) haircut. As I don't "know" the salon, I asked how much it would be, she said £32. I was a bit put off by the price and asked how much it would be for a dry cut, and she said "we don't do dry cuts"

Huh? So it's physically impossible for them NOT to wash your hair when you go in?

So I asked why not, and she went and asked someone else in the salon, came back and said "erm... well we don't have to wash your hair but the price would be the same"

It's ludicrous. I know hairdressers have to make their money, that isn't the issue, I don't mind them getting paid for what they do, but surely they don't expect people to pay an extra £10-£15 for something that isn't going to happen? It doesn't make sense.

Didn't hairdressers used to do dry cuts? Is it just one or two crazy salons round here? (I got the "no dry cuts" answer a couple of years ago at another salon and ended up giving in and having a wash and blowdry- needless to say I had more disposable income back then)

Seems nuts to me, anyway.

Never heard of it before. All the hairdressers where I live do dry cuts.

you can get a dry cut somewhere else

just go somewhere else

I'd rather have a wet cut tbh; costs much the same as dry

I know my hairdresser won't do dry cuts because she says it blunts her scissors. Don't know if it's true.

a hairdresser can't cut your hair really well from dry

The couple that I use both do dry cuts. I hate having my hair cut and then dried to a style that I wouldn't have in a million years! I always used to come home and do it again.

Is it a large chain or posh salon? The ones that do it, are usually the little shops with names like Cut Above or Beyond the Fringe!

Mine use a water spray to wet it down.

I always have a dry cut, I now have a friend of a friend (hairdresser but just doing a bit for herself now she is home with kids) come over to my house and give me a dry cut for £5. And if I want her tidy up the boys hair (I do them with clippers but often she does over their ears and just neatens the back up) then it is £6.

well then why can't they just squirt some water onto your hair like they would do at a barbers (and my dd's hair for that matter)

I HATE having my hair washed by someone else. I sometimes wash it so it is still wet when she comes, or I used to wash and go straigh to the hairdressers.

it needs to be clean though - unless they have just washed it thoroughly for you it has probably got remains of your shampoo on it, plus whatever products you use, plus dust and dirt from the street

sorry I should have said they can't cut your hair so well unless it is CLEAN, not just wet

I don't think hair looks as evenly cut if it is cut dry, but if you really want one, try a mobile hairdresser; they usually do dry cuts and you are not paying overhead that way.

mind you, get someone to recommended first.

why not try to think of it as a nice treat for yourself, getting to sit down and read a magazine and a nice cup of tea, a bit of a chat, instead of yet another chore

and i fyou dont feel like that in the salon you are going to the wrong one

I don't mind having my hair washed or dried, I just resent them charging when they aren't going to do it!

And whenever I've had a dry cut in the past they do always wet the ends anyway, so you're probably right about the scissors (but I doubt they charge extra for the water they spray on!)
