I'm definitely camp real thing, because the ingredients are more likely to be natural than synthetic, plus i like to display the fancy bottles. Not sure if they're also better regulated for ingredient safety, as i'd expect a portion of the price i'm paying to be for safety/quality control.
I decided to buy one "dupe" in December to try, because the perfume it was emulating, Dior Midnight Poison, was a favourite of mine that got discontinued about 10 years ago, maybe longer, and my original 30ml bottle was getting low, even with occasional wear. I did buy a new and sealed 50ml perfume and 50ml body lotion in makeup bag gift set of the origanal on Ebay (for £250, ouch) and it was the real deal, but i wanted to see if there was a decent smell alike for more every day use, as the real deal will last me for special occasions, but i'd like to wear it more often.
I saw 2 middle eastern brands made dupes with similar names (translated in english to night passion) who even modelled their bottle design off the Dior one, but they were manufactured in middle east, were £50 plus for the perfume, and who knows the costs of shipping then import VAT costs, plus i know nothing about their perfume manufacture regulations about ingredient safety etc.
So i checked UK companies like essence vault, EDEN etc, and settled on one from Blossom Perfumery who had a 30% off sale on, and got a 100ml bottle with delivery for about £25.
If you know what the Dior perfume smells like, you can quite easily tell what its an emulation of. It has a strange after scent at the very beginning but it wears off quickly, and as your body heat warms it up and the middle and base notes come through, it gets even nicer and more recognisable. Its not as intense though both are EDP, but it does last really well. As a day to day version its decent, but i'd always go for the real thing for any kind of occasion.
I don't regret buying it, but i don't think i'd buy a dupe again, as displaying the fancy bottles (both in use and empty) is part of my enjoyment of perfumes. Id rather rotate through more variants of "designer" perfumes than stick to dupes of one or two favourites.
