We love gladiators. It's lovely to have family viewing that's not utter trash. The kids are already very sporty but it's so important to have active and fit role models.

All schools should offer the same amount of sports as private schools. Yes, there can be some complaints but you can't win. I think being outside from being tiny should be built into the curriculum and become normal. I think most people drastically underestimate the amount of exercise kids need.

There is a massive gap in cheap/ free, casual activity for 10-16 year olds, and if you lose them then, it's hard to get that habit back.

absolutely. there is definitely a need for that.

skate parks fill some of that gap, but mainly for boys. there is even less for girls.

Why can't girls use skateparks? Lots go to out local one.

I noticed that the gladiators are very supportive of the contenders especially when they have a setback.

I think the reason a lot of children and teens get out of sport/activity is that our current PE curriculum is utter shit and doesn't offer them any choice over activities, and tends to massively alienate the kids who aren't "sporty" (at our local high school that would be any kid who isn't good at football and/or athletics as that's what they push). It then takes years to undo that learned dislike of sport, if it ever gets done at all.

Also agree with this. School PE taight me that I hated activity and was shit at it. I’m just not good at team sports and hated them.

Luckily when I left school at 16 a friend asked me to go to a weekly keep fit class with her and I loved it. Without that I may never have realised I actually like moving and being active.

I think it's really good family entertainment - and I don't think there is a huge amount of that about any more.

I like that it is good natured, with some obvious posturing (Legend) but that it is clear that fair play, effort and being a good sport are important values that are being role modelled by both contestants and gladiators.

In the end it doesn't matter if the games are easier than before - that's just for fun- the final obstacle course is the main contest between the contenders.

I still do handstands and monkey bars in playgrounds. I'm 50 soon.
We could do with more teen / adult play equipment.

I couldn't do a handstand ever! I'm 52. But I could do the splits and am not far off now, especially when I fall over my feet in the kitchen! 😆

I don't remember the Gladiators having anger issues last time round.

’Wolf’ was the baddy in the original series.

Meadowfinch · 28/01/2024 03:04

Gladiators is not my thing at all, it makes me cringe so it would have the opposite effect on me. All that fuss is horrible. I was hopeless at school sport and made to feel useless every week for a decade so I stopped all sport as soon as I possibly could. The last thing I want is someone 'helping'.

But I run and cycle and practice martial arts. Running & cycling can be calming, good thinking time, and to challenge myself against my own speed or distances, and I don't have to be sociable if I don't want to. Or I can ParkRun and cycle with friends.

What I really need is more time. Finding time to run twice a week in winter is difficult. A flexible lunchtime once a week and showers at the office would help.

Yeah Wolf was the pantomime villain..."who's afraid of the big bad wolf"

"Gladiators....Reddae"

This one seems VERY strange with two male hosts. Just the wrong mix for a show like this. I'm sure they could have found an Ulrika ka ka alternative. The Walsh's work well together in that travel show they do as its family travelling together, but father and son hosting a gameshow? Just looks off I think. Although Ant & Dec and other male duos have hosted shows, those tend to be comedic combos who bounce off each other.
