Firstly let me say that I do enjoy going to live shows but mostly have to stay quite local as my daughter is a full time wheelchair user and quite often the VERY few tickets that are available for wheelchair users are snapped up within a very short time.
I was interested in seeing an American comedian when he comes over here in sept but the tickets are sold out.. then I saw the tickets were £400+ each and it was a shock that they were this price and I thought NO WAY would I pay this much even if they were sold out especially during the cost of crisis ATM. I'm now curios if anyone else has a ticket price they won't go beyond or what's the highest you've paid for a seat and who did you see??? Please let me know.

The most I've ever paid for a show is about £100 for a Broadway show - and that's not a lot for a Broadway show!

MassageForLife · 27/01/2024 12:23

The most I paid was £85 for Bruce Springsteen. There's a big gap between that and the next highest. Probably nearly £50 less tbh.

The next gig I'm going to, tickets including booking fee was £15.

GeneCity · 27/01/2024 12:25

I think we've paid £130 for good seats to see popular musicals or bands. I wouldn't really want to pay a lot more.

Everyone is on different budgets and has different priorities though 🤷‍♀️.

Isseywith3witchycats · 27/01/2024 12:31

it sounds like the resellers have snapped up the tickets our local theatre tickets are usually in the £40 region, a band i would love to see are here in october and within two minutes of the tickets going on sale no tickets to buy but lots on the resale sites at around three times the face value , i refuse to pay this amount when ticketmaster sells tickets for manchester arena big bands for half the price they are charging

SoOutingWhoCares · 27/01/2024 12:50

I've been shocked at how much tickets are costing these days. I have been a Taylor Swift fan for over 12 years but even at face value, to get a seated ticket (which I'd need for medical reasons), was very expensive and unjustifiable. I watched The Eras tour at home and felt it was probably the best option as I could see everything clearly and it was less that £20, though obviously less exciting.

I want to see Chris Stapleton but it would be £400 for a decent seat.

I could have a city break abroad (or even two if I get a deal on sale) for the same money.

I'm now looking at up and coming artists instead, playing smaller venues for under £40 and even tribute acts as I love Live Music. I just can't afford to pay to see big artists anymore. I actually find more intimate venues better suit my needs anyway...arenas are a bit overwhelming and I hated the last arena tour I went to. Full of drunks embarrassing themselves and singing and shouting so loudly I couldn't hear the artist.

Riverlee · 27/01/2024 12:52

Around £50 (give or take £10) is my limit. I may stretch more if there’s really special reason(maybe £75-£100) or for a festival where you see more acts.

SoOutingWhoCares · 27/01/2024 12:54

Oh and the highest I paid was £390 for Beyonce when I was young and stupid.
It wasn't worth it.

$200 for Mean Girls on Broadway absolutely was worth it.

Best gigs I've ever been to...one at a listening cafe in Nashville was to spend at least $12 per person on food at the bar and the other was Lady A with Brett Young and Kelsea Ballerini supporting for £38 seated at Manchester Arena. It would be about 10 times that now for the same seats.

It makes me laugh to see people paying £400 to see Chris Stapleton when I literally have never heard of Chris Stapleton. (Will Google.)

QueSyrahSyrah · 27/01/2024 12:56

I paid £80 each to see Harry Styles at Wembley, and have paid just shy of £100 each to see The Plaza Suite at the Savoy Theatre next month, as a special occasion.

Outside of the above I'd say £50/£60 per ticket for something I really wanted to see would be my limit.

PicklesAndTequila · 27/01/2024 12:59

£110 for front floor Harry Styles last year and the same for Billy Joel.
I'd pay up to £200 for someone I really wanted to see, maybe more if I had it.

Funkyslippers · 27/01/2024 13:04

The most I've paid is around £90 to see Crowded House, Sheryl Crow & Turin Brakes this summer. I only paid about £45 to see Queen in 2022! I nearly paid £150 to see TS but the tickets turned out to be a scam. Quite glad as I thought it was an extortionate price esp for 4 people

xyz111 · 27/01/2024 13:08

Paid £80 to see the new stranger things show and was up in the upper circle. Would have loved the £200 tickets in the stalls, but was still amazing.

BobnLen · 27/01/2024 13:10

We paid around £200 each for the Rolling Stones, that was the ticket price for seated in a reasonable seat, not at the front, they were around £400, this was not the secondary ticket market. Usually we expect to pay around £80-£130 for seated, I am too old now to want to stand or sit on the floor at a concert.

CantStandMeow · 27/01/2024 13:15

For me the max price I'm willing to pay for a ticket depends on the event.
The Foos Taylor Hawkins gig in 2022 was £200odd but felt great value for such an event. On the other hand we have Taylor Swift tickets at £300odd as DD a massive Swiftie, but that's more than I'd have liked to pay.
Regular gigs in smallish venues up to £60, bigger ones I don't want to pay more than £100 ideally.

salsmum · 27/01/2024 15:09

Thank you for replying, I'm glad to know that I'm not just being a 'tight wad' I would also pay up to £200 for a special occasion concert but I was just really shocked at over £400 a ticket so sorry Matt Rife I will not be attending. 😢

I think there are two separate streams though.

The big names have got absolutely out of hand ridiculously expensive, making them almost inaccessible for normal people.

On the other hand, I've booked four gigs this year already for bands I don't know all that well that aren't particularly well known - all of them have been £30 or less a ticket.

I think if you're willing to take a punt on live music then you can do that pretty cheaply; if you only want to go and see the world's biggest names live, then there's obviously a premium for that.

The marketing of Harry Styles and Taylor Swift has been properly genius - but it might also make it harder for people to keep enjoying live music of not-quite-top tier artists as everyone else's prices get driven up too.

Jesus, did you see his Netflix special? It was so crap I turned it off after 15 minutes. I think social media was his friend - 60 second edits can look amazing - but a full 90 minutes of Matt Rife. He was really unimaginative. Money well saved there!

MassageForLife · 27/01/2024 16:13

From what I heard, Matt Rife's comedy isn't great - he's just really good at crowd work. And guess what gets put up online?

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 27/01/2024 16:18

I think £90 is where I would usually draw the line. I think I paid a bit over for Bon Jovi golden circle once.

I did in a fit of madness buy Taylor Swift hospitality tickets for Anfield. £430 each (3 of us)

However it does include a 3 course meal and alcohol until she comes on stage - I will need to make the most of it.

I do also think (as a 50 something woman) that the easy access to a toilet in a stadium will be worth an element of that price!!!

MaybeImbad · 27/01/2024 16:24

I was going to ask if it was Matt Rife then saw your update! That must be resales on an unauthorised site, surely?

I got stalls tickets for Matt Rife’s September tour for £35 each when they went on sale - not trying to rub it in just be wary of dodgy sites! Keep checking Twickets - they sell things at face value (although with added fees which ramp things up) and quite often things come up there

lap90 · 27/01/2024 16:27

100 quid max for a concert.
35/40 quid max for theatre.

NoTouch · 27/01/2024 16:30

£100 would be max for something special.

DBro suggested his and our families going to War of the Worlds Live for £150 each a ticket. Eh, no! While I think it would be good to see £50-£70 would be my max for that.

MeemawTucker · 27/01/2024 16:46

I paid £266 for 3 tickets for Taylor next year; I would have happily paid more but DD had a code etc and bagged these three. They are right up in the nosebleeds but it does give a pretty unimpeded view. I am old and need a seat!

ginnybag · 27/01/2024 17:19

I've paid around £200 for theatre in London but that was Cursed Child so technically two shows.

It's not unusual for me to cheerfully pay £80-100 for theatre for decent seats.

Much above that, I won't pay.

And, I'm getting wary of that due to the behaviour of a lot of audiences. I don't mind spending the money for the experience; I do mind spending it to have it ruined by others and this never be addressed.

ForeverWinter · 27/01/2024 17:44

For theatre the most i'll pay is £120 (I try and stay below £100 if i can )

Paid £175 each for Taylor Swift at Wembley for Eras tour (Lower bowl so decent seats) and I winced a bit at that especially when AXS slapped on £50+ on fees
